What on board card you compare with this in your review? How much it differ from realtek ALC889?

There is no audiophile card on the dell laptop. I compared the output of the laptop's USB through the DAC , with the output of sound from a PS3 ( files from hard-disk and the PS3's CD player ( see previous posts on page 1)

i am trying to use my VDAC USB input in Windows 7 PC, since there is some issue in optical input. USB input is not getting detected. do I need to install USB driver? where do I get it?

If this is the VDAC II , plug in the usb from the vdac to your PC. Switch on the vdac, the PC should automatically recognise the dac and install its drivers.

Why don't you use linear power supply.
