Nakamichi Dragon Tech Question

I turned on my Nakamichi Dragon that I haven't used for awhile and noticed the tape counter is continuously running. no tape is in the machine. but the counter keeps running. i opened the cassette door and noticed the left spindle is spinning. i've never had this do it before. any suggestions. did i accidentally push a button to cause this? would appreciate it.

It looks like the cam wheel is not returning to the stop position when you stop the deck. So if is in the rewind mode. Else the idler gear swing arm is somehow stuck at this position. Are you able to play?When the door is closed if you press play does the head lift up?
