Nakamichi RE-10 (used) vs NAD 325/326BEE vs Azur 640A vs Marantz 7001\7003

@ cmsajith: much appreciated!!

cmsajith, Crazy listening session there man! Great going, I can really sense the satisfaction.

Thanks for taking the time out in between to update the thread. You are in bangalore I guess, not in Trivandrum? You are using the Space audio towers or different speakers? Is your dayton sub connected to this or 606 now?

I am at Bangalore for my bread and butter, native is Cochin. I have paired RE-10 with Space Towers currently (started another thread for a new tower). Dayton sub is "under construction", donno when will i finish that (laziness), i might have done it early if I didnt have a sub already. Anyways I hope to connect it asap. For stereo, no need to connect a sub, esp, a ported one because sound decay duration will be more than the woofers. To my surprise I am able to get the same oomph from the towers as my current Onkyo sub, but without booming bass as the sub (in music).

Thats good you can do without sub. I guess the Onkyo sub is what came with your onkyo 340 package?

Awesome :) I am so so glad you loved it. Its more sweet bcos u went with it without auditioning so the risk was higher. Very glad about it ajith

Thanks Ram. I had to take a calculated risk (may be inspired from the shares\MF and the trust) based on several discussions w/ the owner. Anyways I am spending only 13K, right. He had upgraded to an awesome setup (Chord Pre-Power and new set of speakers, not sure which one (but costs 2L) plus another 30/40K CD player altogether i believe its around 4L for stereo.)

I was worried about the fan noise as reported by some people in US, but now i think it was because of some faulty fan. This is so silent that I need to open it and see its running. The heat sink is almost similar to some of the CPU heatsinks, but a bigger one, with lot of thin fins inside and its a closed one w/ opening at 2 ends (one for fan and another for air intake). Anyways I like the idea of the fan, coz after my crazy long listening session, to my surprise the heatsink and the transistors were cool (not even a sign of heat). Its doing the job, because I have seen in some amps with transistors so hot, even we cant even touch the parts which are close. This amp eats 350w for producing 100+100 @ 8ohms (my speakers are at 6 ohms).

Another thing that i noticed was the FM reception, it quickly pickedup the FM signals w/o any disturbance where the Onkyo clearly fails.

I am posting some snaps of my Nakamichi RE-10 stereo amp along with my temporary setup (till i complete the woodwork in my new house). I will post the full setup in the showcase thread once the work is completed.

Note : Zoom to 100% because of the crap camera in my mobile

Hi sajith,

i am looking for a power amp, to pair with nelson pass B1 and AP Book shelf speakers

i read your review on the forum, do you still have the amp ?

while i was looking for power amps i came across following amps , i wanted to check your opinion too

sansui B 2102, Sansui B- 3000, carver hr 895

the above amps are available as of now, but i was also looking for Nakamichi RE-10 , cos i just bought a Nakamichi MB-2 cd player, and thought it will match good

if you are available , i would like to audition your setup too

Regards

Tanoj

The C326BEE is an integrated amp. In my opinion if you are looking at this generation, its better to look at the C320. From my experience it is much better than the C320DEE and the C326BEE

From my experience with NADs, the 216thx poweramp is a fantastic poweramp.

Not sure that the Nakamichi amps can match up some of the great NADs.

Hi . I purchased Nakamichi re10 recently, though many of them resisted me to do that. I have connected it with JBL E80 towers. I already had onkyo integra A807 and am not convinced with nak when compared to A807. I am very unhappy that I purchased it inspite of many stoping me from doing that.

But I didn't get the remote for nak re10. Someone informed me that there are many of the settings to be done through remote and that could be the reason for the disappointment.

I see that bass is not punchy and tight. rather it is very loose. Further mids seems to be low without resolution. Like in onkyo a807 I can hear the roughness of the voice from throat when listening to kenny rogers, which cannot be heard in nak. It appears like the singer is far away from us.

But I also accept that the clarity is very crisp and sweet. Please suggest how to proceed about.

My experience with Nak amps has been a bit disheartening. To me, they always sounded quite thin on the mids. You've mentioned the 325/326BEE, I would say that the C320 (if you can find someone willing to part with it) is better than Nak amps and even the 325/326. I have not heard the Cambridge model.
