Hi

One of my cousins need a receiver and looks like he is finalizing RX-V681

How is the receiver for a mid budget user?

Also please suggest a speaker for same.

I have Rx477 over 3 years old going strong. The receiver should drive most Home theater speakers with ease. What speaker's does he have?

He doesn't have any speaker. Looking for a budget speaker.
Can you give some suggestion please?
Interested in mixing different set of small speaker, not interested in going tower speaker unless required.

Basically he and me both are noob in this.
I have checked and understand that speaker need to be 8ohms and around 150W according to specs given in official website.

What should we look for in a speaker specs?

Budget approx 30-40k? Is that sufficient?
Room size: approx 12x12 (we all have small rooms here :( )
It will be used with PC

Lets start with the Budget, Room size and Source. Like would it be just TV, or Bluray, PC what not.
You are right about the ohms thing. 6 or 8 ohms is what you want to look for. also sensitivity in speakers is important. Over 89db sensitivity will become very loud.
You can look at these websites for approx pricing.

ok so what will be best sensitivity? Anything less then 89db?
He do not want the speaker to produce crappy sound due to high volume. You know that burst sound.

sensitivity dictates over all volume which in turn is about how much power you need to drive the speakers.
Most home theater speakers are well suited to play loud enough with the given AVR, so I wouldn't worry about too much technicalities. 5.1 Speaker packages save you the headache of matching speakers. Home theater in a box saves you the headache and money. How much total is your friend willing to spend for the Amp, Speakers, cables what not?

Given the room is small....you can look at 5.1 systems....satellite ones....like Boston Acoustics Soundware 5.1 or Morel Primo....these will work well..

The auto calibration setup will take care of tonal adjustments and levels....these speakers are 8 ohms....

There are also other brands available...you could also look at mini bookshelf set of speakers...

Audition as much as possible and then finalise

Consider 2 pairs of these speakers (Taga Harmony TAV-806S) for fronts & surrounds - https://www.hifimart.com/taga-harmony-tav-806s-surround-speaker.html?search=Taga&description=true

Center (Taga Harmony 806C) - https://www.hifimart.com/index.php?route=journal2/quickview&pid=852

Subwoofer - https://www.hifimart.com/taga-harmony-tsw-90-v-3-active-subwoofer.html?search=Taga&description=true

If you have any more budget left and would like to complete 7.1 set-up, then consider one more pair of Taga Harmony TAV-806S..

Getting Yamaha RXV 681 and spending 30-40k on 5.1 system is being unfair to the receiver. Its potential will never be realized by satellites. Given the small room I would go for 481 and spend more on speakers.

If he is determined on 7.1 or dolby atmos future proofing, then go for 581, it will be more than sufficient.

For speakers, I would go for step-wise approach, something on the lines of elangoas. First start with front speakers and then build slowly. Many other options available, check prices on Hifi mart and Htstore to have some idea.

You should look at 5xx series only for additional features like Atmos. Power is same in 4xx and 5xx.

6xx series has more power with atmos.

Looking for some user feedback on Taga 806S as a surround speakers. Saw this in hifimart for around 9K+/pair.

He is geetting that AV in a deal so it will cost a way less than the original price.

You should try and audition it yourself preferably with the chosen amp. There are plenty to choose from, but unless you listen to it yourself, you would be just shooting in the dark.
