Need expert Opinions

I'm looking to get a hometheatre system for my room which is approx. 600 square feet.
I've decided on the basic system, but would like some educated opinions of the hifi community.
My budget is pretty modest, Rs.50-60k
So here is what I've looked at:

Denon DP 29F Turntable
Bose Acoustimass 5 Series III Stereo Speaker System

What I'm struggling to find is an amplifier for the turntable. If anyone could recommend an amplifier which suits Denon the best for around 20k I would really appreciate it.

Other than the turntable I look to add a Playstation 3 to the setup.

Study the site for 3-4 weeks and then you may get a lot of answers , then you can come with informed conclusions, then we at forum can take corrective action!

Forget Dp-29 f its not good quality tt,buy a good vintage.I am sure you will be able to find in this price range.Invest in good phono stage and cartridge you will never regreat.

I had considered buying a second hand Turntable and amplifier but wasn't able to find a reliable source.

Also, which home theater speaker system would you recommend on a budget of Rs.25-30k?

I have searched the site quite a bit and was a bit confused regarding where I could find 2nd Hand Turntables and Amplifiers in Delhi from a reliable source.
Regarding my choice of Denon, I've read quite a few good reviews and was swayed by the review in AV Max Magazine.

If anyone could suggest a better 5.1 speaker system on a budget of 25-30k I would greatly appreciate it.

if you want a turntable based system, you don't need 5.1 channel speakers. you just need 2 speakers..

@Uday, If you want to buy turntable consider the following brands : Thorens, Linn Sondek LP 12, VPI and SME though there are other thousands turn table floating around in the market as well with good quality.

For the phono pre amp, I use Thorens TEP 302 and the sound is excellent. If you want to play Hi End Audio, you need a very good budget...if you do not have at the moment better wait so that you will get the performance that you want. I never suggest to buy or grab this and that without knowing the content or sound quality. Denon is a good brand but for home theater AV Receiver and their CD player is quite good as well, other than these two just forget about it.

When you buy turn table make sure you consider the tonearm. The best tonearm maker in the world is SME, follow by Sumiko.

For cartridge issue, it all depends on what kind of music are you listening too. For western classical music Ortofon is a good one, for singing benz micro is more audible.

Power amplifier need to be consider seriously... I can suggest to buy the following brand : McIntosh, Chord Electronics, Burmester, T+A Elektroakustik (T+A is so famous in Germany but not Asia but I owned one and like the sound very much) and many more.

Since everyone seems to be advising against the Denon, What about getting a Project Expression or Project DebutMK3 or Project RPM 1.3 Genie from Amazon? Prices are around 14k.
Also going to check out the Sherwood turntables in Delhi.

See, it is very difficult to give opinion about listening preference due to everybody's ears are different. I would suggest better you go to some audio showroom in your city and ask them your matching budget, this will help you a lot. Playing Audio system is not like buying chocolate or rice. Music is an art and an art does not have boundary. Music can only be feel, it cannot be touch. It is the interaction between Human feeling, thinking and nature.

Buying turntables, you should see the company profile whether they are turntable manufacture or are they making turntable to complete their collection?. I never buy turntable from the company who is not a pioneer in that. As I said earlier, the good turntable brands are : Thorens, SME, VPI, Linn Sondek, J A Mitchell Engineering, Clear Audio, Nottingham Audio, and there are still more that I cannot mention one by one. These companies are pioneer in turntable as they dont produce other things.

For Speakers you can consider : Avantgarde, Avalon, Wilson Audio, Isophon.

So I would suggest not in hurry buying all these equipments. I took more than a year doing a research and keep visited many showrooms to listen different brands before jump into decision.

This is probably the highest my budget is ever going to get. I have checked out Audio showrooms and one thing I've noticed is that almost everyone recommends a Project Debut III for an entry level TT.
As far as speakers go, I liked the sound of the Bose, but am going to go check out a JBl system as well.

Has anyone ever ordered a TT from Amazon? Really amazing prices compared to the Indian market.

Uday, it would help if you give some more details, do some research and be clear in your objectives.

For example, you state home theater system, but are looking for a turntable.
So are you using it for music or movies and what would be the weightage in listening and viewing preferences.

You are looking at a turntable and no other sources, so would lp's be the only source of music or you plan to use the PS3 for other sources (CD/DVD...)

Is the PS3 cost included in the 60k then there is no budget left.

So if you can clearly state your objectives, other components, people can help you allocate budgets. Post which search for the components that fall within your budget, get expert opinion on them. Post that, you need to listen for yourself and either decide or seek clarifications.

This way it benefits both you as well as the forum.

I already have a ps3 so it won't be included in the budget.
The budget of 60-70k is for a Turntable + Phono+ Amplifier + Speaker system.
My main focus for the system would be to listen to music, and sometimes watch movies through the PS3.

There is a package of JBL speakers which includes a Harmon Kardon AVR for 25k. Thoughts?

Hope that clears up the confusion.

Also, for the Phono amp and Turntable I'm really tempted to order a Project Debut + a Project Mk2 Phono Amp from amazon due to their low prices. The cost of purchasing both together is around Rs 22,000.
