Hi,

I have got Epson tw-8100 projector and denon avr-1311 amplifer. I have my blu-ray player(panasonic bdt220) and a chinese brand media player attached to my Denon. Denon out goes to Epson in.

The issue is many times Projector doesn't turn on ever. It makes some noise and the shutter doesn't open. To make sure that there is no HDMI hand-shake issue all my devices attached to denon are switched on before switching on the projector.

The moment i remove the denon and connect Projector with Tata sky, it gets on immediately!

If i give denon out to my tv(lg cinema3d 42") the denon also works fine!

So when i called both epson and denon guys, epson engineer said that the projector is working fine with tatasky input so there is some problem with denon. and denon said that amplifer is working fine with tv so projector's HDMI chip is faulty! What do i do now?? I am absolutely clueless.. Struggling with this issue since couple of months!! Am i missing any link here? anybody faced this issue before?

I am not sure if it may help but is HDMI link enabled on your epson. Try disabling it. Also have you swapped the tatasky/denon cable and see if it works.

I had this issue. disable HDMI link will work in epson. If the product (in your case media player) does not meet the HDMI global norms, the projector will not accept. I discussed this with Epson in detail and they are working on the solution now.

I have a similar problem with my Epson TW 8100, the issue began with its HDMI Port-1 around 4 months back & as of date my PJ is totally DEAD

In Apr this year I noticed that when I play any content through this PJ's Port-1 from my Sony BDP S490 then screen goes blank for 2-3 sec every 10-15 mins & the same content plays perfectly on Port-2 of the same PJ while all other devices are playing alright on Port-1 like Tata Sky & Sony DVD Player except Sony BDP S490.

I immediately reported this to Epson but till date they haven't found any solution to this. They have tested my PJ soo many times with each & every possibility, but the outcome is even more terrible, gradually my Port-2 has also stopped working for BD player & later even Tata Sky stopped displaying any picture on Port-1. So I could ONLY watch Tata Sky (As BD Player was not working on both Ports) on Port-2 (As PORT-1 was TOTALLY DEAD). I had NO other option to change source or port as any other combination was not working.

Now most recently (Last week), one fine day PJ stopped working at all. Epson Team checked & concluded that there is some motor attached to some shutter between lamp & the optics which has stopped working due to unknown reason.

Now they have arranged a demo unit of PJ & their own Sony 3D BD player to check where exactly the problem is. Keeping my fingers crossed & praying that atleast we could trace out the problem, solution is secondary!!

We have tried all of below & more:

1. Different HDMI Cables from 1 mt - 15mts (Branded/Non Branded)
2. Replaced the Main Board & Opticals of the PJ
3. Checked my Sony BD player on Sony LCD TV, it is working perfectly.
4. My Sony BD player when connected to PJ through AV cable, works fine.

:sad::sad::sad:

If anyone has any clue about this issue then please let me know, I'll update this thread as soon as I get to know the issue.

I have a suggestion that may or may not work, but can be given a try -
Place an active (powered) HDMI switcher/splitter in chain just before projector. Maybe the HDMI switcher/spliter will neutralize the incompatibility.
Make sure that HDMI cable between Switcher/Splitter and Projector is at least 5 ft or 6 ft long. Shorter HDMI cables tend to be problematic.

Thanks rshri!

We have finally narrowed down the problem to my HDMI Switch (Non Powered) & my Sony BDP S490 Player which seems to have some issue with its HDMI Configuration which is not remitting the perfect signals to PJ but somehow all other devices can still understand those signals correctly.

We have tested the PJ with some other model of Sony 3D BluRay Player & it worked perfectly. So now the main issue is to convince Sony Support Team that my Bluray player is not functioning correctly even when it is working perfectly on all devices except my PJ :mad::mad::mad:
