Hi ,

I have been using Logitech premium headset, bought this to watch films and make calls over internet/voice chat.

Now am planning to get a new one. My usage hasnt changed much. I still intend to use it for watching movies and music on my laptop. I listen to music extensively, you can say atleast 8 hours a day and a film a day. Most of the films I have are Blu-Ray rips.

Please guide me in selecting a replacement.

Budget and your location?
Also any acess to US or UK?
Second question I am asking as specialised acessories are cheaper there!

Sennheiser is a good place to start with depending on your budget. Would you also be needing a mike for voice chatting and making calls or just a headset for listening?

Senheisser hd202 at 1500rs is a reasonable option. Its decent for movies and music. However, they are big and your ears will heat up with extensive use, as they are the circum aural type.
What kind of budget do you have and where do you plan to buy it from? If you have access to u.s, its the best!

I'm thinking you could get more specific help if you could post the following:

1. The budget
2. Where are you planning to buy the headphones from?
3. Are you looking at getting a headphone amp as well?
4. What form factor are you looking at?

I have the goldring dr-150 from their launch year( 2006?). It has great built quality. Plus is great for movies.

Thanks for the reply guys..

I stay in chennai, India. My budget is moderate, if few more rupees will give a better product am ready for it.

My usage willl be mostly with a laptop only.

Logitech had all that i needed, well.... compared to local made headphones that i used before it. Mostly I intend to use it for movies and music. voice chat would be comparatively very less, but having a mic is an aded advantage for me.

Logitech used to work only for 6-8 months in my hands, took around 2-3 replacements for it, but with same result. BTW logitech price is around 800Rs. and my present budget is 2k+, can double it... provided the product has all I need :)

US, is an option I can try.. have to check if anybody is returing ;)

If anybody is also from chennai, please guide to a preferable storea as well, only place I know here is Richy street.

Here are a few good ones from Sennheiser I know of in your price range. The catch is I'm pretty certain these would be more than twice their price here. You could try checking the prices and also see if someone could pick you a pair from the US:

Sennheiser PX 100 @ HeadRoom

Sennheiser HD 201 @ HeadRoom

Sennheiser HD 202 @ HeadRoom

Sennheiser HD 212 Pro @ HeadRoom

BTW, here's the contact for the Chennai distributor:

Well one of the forum members had a bad experience with Goldring as stated at http://www.hifivision.com/mp3-mp4-wma-players-accessories/4119-suggest-ear-phones-5.html#post47515. Would like to know if it was fixed, repaired or even if warranty covered it?

buddy

there was as such no problems with the Goldring-GX100...

1). He had a problem of low base, which was solved, once he switched the correct ear buds....

2). The right ear phone was not working, for which he accepted tht there maybe a problem in the wire as the folds were not proper...
I dont think any company gives replacements if the wire is broken from inside or something...
all the headphones, whether they are Goldring, Sennheiser, Grado, etc...comes with one year warranty against manufacturing defects only...
that means, if there is any physical damage then the company is not responsible...Hope i am not wrong, and harsh on the product effected...

Yes apart from that if there is any sound quality problem, or something else then plz let me knw...
And i think companies like Goldring, etc are pretty popular worldwide, and being awarded regularly...so i dont think they will take any steps, that will ruin up there brand name...

This is true only for products sold in India.

Thanks very much, 212 pro looks fine.

Please provide me some recommendations/suggestion on headset(with mic).

Here's the catch. I am not aware of any good headphones (except the Sennheiser HD280Pro and Beyerdynamic DT880) that comes with a microphone option. Needless to add they are both way out of your price range and am not sure if it's available in India. The best option is to get a small good quality condenser mic. and do a DIY surgery to attach them to whatever headphones you buy. There are lots of examples of DIY mics at the head-fi.org site...

In my opinion, the sennheisers are a tad overpriced in india, especially with such talented competition like the philips HP 2700. Alternately, if you prefer bass, try the sony MDR XD200. I've used both , and prefer them over the cheaper senn's ( HD201/202). Havent heard the HD 212/PX 100, so can't comment.
getting a good one with a mic might be tough. why not buy a seperate mic ?
