Hi All,
Finally I have decided on Denon 1612 as the AVR (was confused between 1612 and 1912 as I wanted to install heights as well, but chose 1612 as everyone I spoke to told me that for viewing size as small as mine, which is 8x10 approx, the standard 5.1 setup would be sufficient and the heights would not make much of a difference). And denon was the prime choice because of 50:50 movie:music and also because of the audessey and free mic :)!

I am now looking for a good speaker set (5.1) for it within the maximum range of 40k for the complete speaker set. I am looking for Satellites or bookshelves but not huge looking bookshelves (maximum size would be similar to Energy take classic 5.1).

I had demoed Boston MCS100 3-4 months back and loved them, but they seem to be out of stock, except at one shop where they had a demo piece which has a small dent in the woofer). I also demoed Elac Starlet, but that was with an onkyo avr. My wife liked that a lot while I didnt like it too much as the center channel seemed pretty weak. I have also auditioned ETC 5.1 and ADORED it.....but am not able to find it anywhere in Delhi.

Now my queries are:

1) What all speakers should I look to audition within that price range (40k) and size?
2) Is it a good idea to buy a demo piece? I loved the boston mcs100, but am not sure if its a good idea to buy the demo piece.
3) Is elac starlet a good buy, considering its price? Or can I get a better speaker set in this range?
4) Is it a good idea to order ETC from US. There is a deal on ebay for it.

1. Look at Cambridge Audio sirocco 5.1 for 45

2. Dunno about boston but i only buy demo pieces, preferably thats half it's value or lesser.

3. Yes it's good

4. Not a good idea.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply :)!! Cambridge Audio sirocco are floorstanders....I am looking for either satellites or bookshelves!

So Elac Starlet is a good idea right? And importing speakers not right? Sorry....just confirming it again :)!

The demo piece I am getting is for 20k. As I said they are atleast 5-7 months old and the price he had quoted 5-7 months back was 35k.

Hey, our forum member krishpiscean wanted to sell his ETC 5.1 setup. You can pm him and see. :)

Yeah I know....he had sent me a pm. But he is in Hyderabad.....and I am a lil scared about getting the speakers delivered here....you know how the courier guys are :(!

Given your budget Try JBl. They may have some interesting 5.1 offerings. They have their showroom in Kalkaji. For more options try Top Gizmos in Noida. You could find something useful here.

Good luck.

Cheers.

Will try out JBL....its very near to my place :)!!

Try not to go in for the JBL / Harman standard fare ... ie. satellites. Not saying its bad.

If you are NOT risk averse, try this combination out .... ITS PERFECT ...
For fronts: JBL Control 1 (pair) - @ 7.5K
For rear: JBL Control1 (pair) - @ 7.5 K
For Centre: JBL Control Now - Pls chk price, should be within 7.5 K
Sub: you got numerous choices depending upon your budget ... settle for max. 8", looking at the size of your room.

You would have a rip-roaring HT without emptying too much of moolah!

But is JBL stuff as good as other known brands like BA, Polk, Elac, Onkyo etc?

http://www.hifivision.com/sale-owne...eisa-winning-e700-dtt-bookshelves-center.html

This combo of bookshelf pair + center for 21k..heck ill drop it to 20k for you since you're in delhi and you can pick it up, will DESTROY any plastic jbl's and budget wharfedale 9.1 9.2 10.1 10.2 or CA30 or whatever else you can throw at them for 10k+10k.

And by destroy I don't mean it in volume, the detail, clarity and punch are as something to be felt to believe and wonder how theyre coming out of such a small speaker. They have decoupled neodymium magnets and inverted woofer placement for a larger soundstage than any other bookshelves you'll find for the price.

Also EISA winners for best home theatre speakers. Can't ask for a better deal at 20k. Mint condition except one edge of one of the grills. Only reason I'm selling is cuz I'll be moving and there wont be anyone to listen to 5.1 setup.

E 700 Bookshelf Speaker - Specs

You cannot go wrong with them. Avidyarthy can vouch for me.

If in doubt about size dont be, they're 5" wide 8" deep and 10" tall. Small enough to be hung on walls which I have here:

If youre looking for an avr you can even come over and check out mine if you're interested since I'll be selling it off soon.

Abso agree here ..... Believe me, I have the dough with me to pick them up, and am tempted to do so .... since 'Lakshmiji' ain't always happy with me. But, currently I have no space to put them up!

Its a STEAL at this price .... even the AVR is phenomenal! Way better to what you would get from the 'usuals'.
