New AV receiver with old speakers

Hi Guys,
i have very recently purchased a Sony 3d tv. (HX 800) It came along with the sound bar HT system( HT-CT350 : Home Theatre Component System : Home Theatre System : Sony India ). The sound output is good but not great.
I attached my wd media player audio source to my old sony hifi system( 3300 watts output) and the sound is great for surround, but does not work with 5.1 or 7.1 output (obviously) .

Now i was thinking of buing a av reciver so that i can get the 5.1 output and attach it to 4 speakers(2 main 2 surround) of my sony hifi system and use existing wooder of ht soundbar.

Q1. Is this somehow possible?
Q2. What is the best solution or workaround to create a 5.1?

Get a Sony HT System. They should cost you less then the receivers from Yamaha, Marantz , Denon etc.

Pl mention what's your budget , room size and equally important as to what would've your listening / watching hours.also congrats on your new Sony TV.cheers

I use WDTVlive hub and sony bluray and mostly watch movies on weekends. My room size is 18x12ft.

I have a limited budged sy 30 k that is why i want to use my existing speakers .:sad:
