hi everyone,
bought brand new Boston Acoustics A26 bookshelf speakers and Marantz PM6006 stereo amp. I find that though bass is good there is some shrillness or harshness in the sound specially at high volume. It is kind of not clear but mixed up kind of sound. Not sure if i was able to explain.
is it because the spkrs and amp are new, will the shrillnes go after some time or should i consider changing the spkrs (that option is still open for 1-2 days after which i will not be able to change). ready to buy little expensive spkrs also like Jamo C93 which i have auditioned earlier. Pl suggest

Hi

I agree, I somehow did not like the performance of the A26.....it indeed sounds harsh at loud volumes....

C93 is awesome and you will not regret....try the Taga Harmony B40s....they are also good....also look at Polk RTiA1s.......

Just get a demo of Wharfdel Diamond 220 and if want more bass than Polk RTIA 3, will cost little more but will do justice for what you pay.

Hi

Technically bigger speakers (cone size) deliver better bass ...also depends on cabinet material and design.....

If you check out a few you tube videos with the various models of speakers....you will be surprised with performance....I got stumped with the video of Taga Harmony B 40s.....it is said that the SE version (more expensive) is better sounding......

Key is to audition with your kind of music and decide where possible...

its called as burn in ...play it for some days and u will see the sound changing

I have a Marantz PM11S2 which sounded like somebody was trying to strangle it ....after nearly 1 month it has now opened up ...

Let some days go. lf still it sounds bright, then try changing speaker cables or interconnects which plays important role in overall sound quality.
Also room acoustics and speaker placement matters.

What cables are you using? Sometimes cheaper amps tend to be a bit noisy in the power supply. Try a power cable like the VDH and some speaker cables from VDH as well. This will tame down the highs.

I suggest you to wait.....when i got my BOSTON A360 I was shocked with sound...it was very diff what i heard at their showroom.....iy was very harsh & it felt like bass drivers werent working.I was damn irritated. Then my dealer said me to keep the speaker singing continuously for 5 - 6 hour daily and then after 20 days......the sound became brilliant

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
