New buy squeezebox touch

I'm using my Duet over wifi playing FLACs off my laptop and it very rarely stutters. I've had one or two occasions when it buffered but for most part, the streaming is smooth.

Thanks, @GeorgeO and @Bluu!

After quite a bit of reading, I've decided the Squeezebox Touch will not meet my needs (HDD only, no network). The Touch apparently works flawlessly when paired with a NAS or a computer running Squeezebox server. But it does reportedly have issues with external HDDs (esp. the ones without separate power supplies).

I've decided to go the Music PC way (parts already ordered) :)

Thanks :)

Actually, I've already started a thread in the "My Audio/Video Setup" section, mentioning the other stuff I've been buying. I will be adding the HTPC details there for sure.

I am planning to buy Squeezbox touch..My query is how to install NAS server on my pc..As some friends in this forum faced problems with squeez center..?

People might have had problems with the Squeezebox Server but I have not had so far. The Internet Radio streaming is also very good. HDD experience is also good.

I have not tried the externally powered HDD.

The problem of streaming might arise because of router being overloaded.

@umapati : NAS is a free software. Just visit the site.

I have had no problem with SqueezeBox Server --- and I have used both the Windows and, now, the Linux version of it. It works with the music that you have on your PC, in the way that you have organised it. Simple and straightforward!

FreeNAS, as mentioned, looks like a complete OS optimised and dedicated to file serving --- not something that you would just install on your PC? Assuming that the Touch functions in the same way as the Duet, there is not a way that you can simply get it to talk to a file server.

Anyway, SqueezeCentre is made for the job. It is the starting point for talking to or serving your squeezebox.

Best hint I can give re anything Squeezebox: Be aware of the SqueezeBox Community Forums!

@TaureanBull & Thad E Ginathom..Thanx a lot for your reply..Can u plz help me again..I am getting confused between Squeezbox Touch & Duet..which one should I buy ?

Both are equally good. In my personal opinion touch wins over duet over two issues:-

1. SB Touch has USB. Many of the famous music players dont have USB including SONOS.

2. Duet receiver without controller is pretty useless. Cost of both of them together is much higher than Touch. $399 vs $274 as per logitech site.

Reviews that I have read elsewhere suggest that the Touch has the best analogue output.

Whilst the remote controller is the sexiest (and most expensive) part of the Duet, you ca always control the Receiver from Squeezecentre on the PC (and probably from smart-phone apps? That I don't know about). ok, there is stuff you can do with the controller all by itself, after getting its headphone socket working ...

But if I was buying today, I'd go for the newer, said-to-have-superior-DAC, Touch.

Great..So I have finally decided to go for Touch..getting it from US..very excited to join the group..Thanx a lot for all your help..
