Hi All,

I am newbie here and to the world of home theater concepts. Its my first post seeking advise and help.

I recently brought Sony 55x9000F and was planning to add some more speakers as sound is just adequate and while searching the internet I got this forum in hifivision website. I spent good time in reading several threads and tried to build some knowledge about sound systems and their terminology.

My budget is around 50K INR to make home theater and I am of 50:50 music (mostly old songs from 70/80/90's from Hindi/Telugu) and movie guy (mainly English action movies :) ). The TV is installed in a room having 10Ft (width) 16Ft (Length) and TV is installed in 16Ft wall (so my viewing distance b/w TV and sitting position is 10Ft). I stay in Chennai.

Initially thought of buying Sound Systems (HTIB) from Sony and changed my mind after reading some of the threads to Yamaha/Denon etc., and now I am in Dilama to make own Home Theater by buying individual components like AV receiver and speaker set separately. I have below options and seek your advise / help in making the right choice. If you see any other combinations that are good, pls. recommend one.

NS-P40 + Yamaha HTR-3072
Denon SYS 5.1 HOME THEATRE SPEAKER SYSTEM -2020 + Yamaha HTR-3072
Denon SYS 5.1 HOME THEATRE SPEAKER SYSTEM -2020 + yamaha HTR-3067
Yamaha YHT 2910 (contains HTR-3067)
YHT-3072 IN (newly launched in india).
Onkyo HT-S3800 5.1

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Welcome to HFV

As you have already done your homework, you have shortlisted models / brands based on your budget.

You would have read owner threads on this site which provide first hand feedback and experience around these systems.

My advise is to go visit the various dealers in Chennai close to you and audition these systems and possible some other systems which may cost 10k / 20k more and understand the difference.....carry your favorite music and movie clip which can be used as reference to further shortlist and decide on the brand and model.

Given your viewing distance and size of the place, satellite speakers will have to work their 100% capacity to keep you satisfied. You may need to look at Bookshelf speakers or have a pair of floor standing front speakers and satellite speakers / bookshelf speakers for the rear......

In terms of AVRs....Yamaha provides a 50:50 balance for music and movies...Marantz is 70:30 and Denon is 30:70....Pioneer is 60:40.....most brands offer features in their high end models like auto audyssey calibration or YPAO or MCCA setup for speaker levels and EQ etc......One thing good about the Marantz is that all models offer these important features

Some combos which may work for you: ( I suggest the Marant NR1508 and one of the Taga 5.0 speakers set based on your room specs and budget).

There are many online dealers and you need to check who offers the best rate with warranty....

There is no thumb rule that you need to have the same brand of speakers and avr....as long as the product delivers what you require in terms of performance, features and sound quality...go for it....TRUST YOUR EARs....after all you will be the end user...we can all advise and guide......final decision rests with you......

For those who dont get a chance to audition, they rely on reviews, Youtube uploaded videos and possibly visiting fellow members homes in the same location to get an idea.....

AVRs keep changing in terms of features etc.....this happens almost yearly.....speakers more or less remain the same....so you may find many updating the AVR rather than speakers.....so go for an AVR which meets your connectivity and feature requirement. Ensure that the AVR has ample connection inputs (Check your set top box / TV etc what AUDIO OUT ports are there ...Optical or Coaxial or HDMI or Analog L+R RCA)

If budget is a challenge and you want to have the best.....look for preowned stuff being sold on this forum and OLX. You may just get lucky and get a nice high end system which will serve your purpose.

With Diwali round the corner, there are many dealers who may come up with huge discounts....dont blindly purchase, please audition where possible and make a final list...start now so that when these offers come, you can jump and make your purchase!

All the best!
