I got a call from a DishTV representative that he was going to change my DishTV's LNB. He then came to my place and replaced it. It's a dual LNB (two LNBs in one). He also changed the coaxial cable connector to the LNB (and charged Rs. 20 for the connector whereas LNB was replaced free of cost
).
Second LNB enables my STB to receive more channels. I can see 79 channels called Test 1, Test 2 etc starting from 40000. The person told me that this space will be used for adding more HD channels in near future. He didn't say exactly how near but assured me that I'll see Cricket World Cup in HD.
He also did a system software update (firmware update). This added one option to my "Guide" menu in STB settings - "Dolby Digital"! It was set to "No"; changing it to "Yes" didn't have any visible effect.
After this change I found that there are multiple audio options in Discovery HDWorld. I pressed the green button and wow there is "Hindi DD" DD is the dolby digital sign with the second D inverted. When I selected "Hindi DD" my receiver immediately recognized encoding to be Dolby Digital. Audio language wasn't Hindi as written in the option. It was still english. I didn't hear anything from my surround speakers in last half n hour of listening to this channel. However it shows that DishTV STB is indeed capable of doing a pass through on Dolby digital signals. This works regardless of whether my Dolby Digital option is set to Yes or No.
I think the DishTV STB can't down-convert Dolby Digital encoded streams to PCM (stereo) so they'll have to have multiple audio options, with default being set to PCM.
Overall my hopes for receiving more HD channels and with DD5.1 are high. Let's see how soon DishTV lives upto them.
