Hi All,
I hv Onkyo 3400, i was on right path using co-axial, opted same port for audio. even i could see Dolby sign on A/V receiver. Dewaar had 5.1 except only match b/w CSK & RR had problem , while i could hear 5.1 b/w PW vs MI.
Anil - I am sure its there for your AVR. Check the manual to assign the Coaxial input to that particular HDMI connection..
there is an option to assign coax input in AVR to tata sky but even after that not getting DD sound maybe as suggest above AVR is giving preference to HDMI over Coax
Did you try connecting to another HDMI port on TV or another HDMI cable? Did you try restarting the STB and checking its settings? If it has set the HDMI resolution to 576i, your TV may not support that resolution through HDMI (through component it can).Well I have a different problem. Now the TV is not receiving any signals through HDMI. Have connected with component and have raised a ticket with CC. The box is still under warranty though. Hope it is solved.
The component uses 5 RCA s for both Audio + Video whereas the HDMI was a great convinience.
The STB is getting quite hot to touch too. Only noticed the same yesterday after I lost the HDMI connection. This happened after a power cut. It was receiving the signals fine before this happened.
An update on my issue. Today I received a call from CC where I informed the guy of the problem. He stated that an engineer visit will be scheduled and the charges for the same would be Rs 125. As I stated that this is basically a warranty issue so I should not be charged for the visit he readily agreed and said that I need not pay anything. As promised a call came at 6 pm and the engineer visited my place saw the problem and said that the stb needs to be replaced and as he is not carrying a spare peice he will come tomorrow morning and replace the same. Then he placed a call to his support centre and had a set top box delivered to my premises and now the new box was paired to my card and the HDMI is working fine now.
A+ for the support by TS.
What I think is, it not the matter of being Discovery and Max HD pseudo Dolby but it is concerned with the content. As both of the channels do not show films, which have very nicely recorded 5.1 channel audio.Max HD and Discovery HD has pseudo 5.1 audio which at times sound mono or roaming between front LR and CENTER speakers. This is quite normal and we all are facing this issue. I have escalated these issues to TS top management and still waiting for their update.
Also, just because you get DD5.1 audio on your receiver does not mean all the content you see will have discrete 5.1 audio. It will depend on the content which is absolutely normal. You may hear mono or stereo only (coming from LR or CENTER).
Nat Geo usually have good 5.1 content.. Hence same can happen with Discovery HD World if they master well at studio. Any recorded content can be mastered in 5.1 during content creation (like we currently see in Star Plus HD)... However TS seems to be doing it on the fly through some equipments (like PL2 processing on our AVR) and DRC which is essentially creating these issues..What I think is, it not the matter of being Discovery and Max HD pseudo Dolby but it is concerned with the content. As both of the channels do not show films, which have very nicely recorded 5.1 channel audio.
And I fully agree that not all films have pure 5.1 channel sound. Even all new films do not have this.
