NO..Its playing Audio in 5.1 perfectly. In fact watching Deewar(New) in 5.1 as I am writing. By the way my STB is TS HD.
Just check if you have made any changes in Receiver settings or STB Audio settings by mistake.

What is the make and model of your A/V receiver?

If you are connecting HDMI as well as Coax audio for a channel, some of the A/V receivers take HDMI audio. In that case you need to configure the A/V receiver to use the Coax audio.

What channel were you seeing and what was showing on your HT Receiver? They might have been testing content based audio where original might have been Stereo (like most of the Discovery HD World and Max HD).

What AVR are you using? The AVR is taking audio from HDMI by default, you have to set it to take audio from Co-axial.

Hi All,

I hv Onkyo 3400, i was on right path using co-axial, opted same port for audio. even i could see Dolby sign on A/V receiver. Dewaar had 5.1 except only match b/w CSK & RR had problem , while i could hear 5.1 b/w PW vs MI.

The Onkyo 3300 (to which the 3400 is a successor) has built-in logic by which HDMI audio is always given priority over optical and component digital. Check your manual to confirm that this is the case - there is a graphic showing priority.

If this is the problem, then the only way you can get 5.1 out of your receiver is to connect the Tata Sky HDMI directly to your TV, and use the component digital input for the audio. This is a big pain, but Tata Sky's not yet fixed their faulty implementation.

Hope this helps.

Max HD and Discovery HD has pseudo 5.1 audio which at times sound mono or roaming between front LR and CENTER speakers. This is quite normal and we all are facing this issue. I have escalated these issues to TS top management and still waiting for their update.

Also, just because you get DD5.1 audio on your receiver does not mean all the content you see will have discrete 5.1 audio. It will depend on the content which is absolutely normal. You may hear mono or stereo only (coming from LR or CENTER).

Tried to change connection of my HT last night earlier the connection were like this

Tata SKy HD ---> TV via HDMI for Video
Tata SKy HD ---> 3300 via Coax for Audio
WD ---> Tv via HDMI for Video
WD ---> 3300 via Optical for Audio

tried it this way
Tata sky HD ---> 3300 via HDMI for Video
Tata sky HD ---> 3300 via coax for Audio (did not got DD 5.1 sound)
WD ---> HDMI for both Audi and Video( got DD 5.1 sound)

i want to know is there any option in 3300 to set input video from HDMI and input audio from Coax for tata sky HD

so now my connections are like this

Tata SKy HD ---> TV via HDMI for Video
Tata SKy HD ---> 3300 via Coax for Audio
WD ---> HDMI for both Audi and Video( got DD 5.1 sound)

Anil - I am sure its there for your AVR. Check the manual to assign the Coaxial input to that particular HDMI connection..

there is an option to assign coax input in AVR to tata sky but even after that not getting DD sound maybe as suggest above AVR is giving preference to HDMI over Coax

Did you check the sound settings in STB? You need to make sure Preferred is DD..

Well I have a different problem. Now the TV is not receiving any signals through HDMI. Have connected with component and have raised a ticket with CC. The box is still under warranty though. Hope it is solved.

The component uses 5 RCA s for both Audio + Video whereas the HDMI was a great convinience.

The STB is getting quite hot to touch too. Only noticed the same yesterday after I lost the HDMI connection. This happened after a power cut. It was receiving the signals fine before this happened.

Did you try connecting to another HDMI port on TV or another HDMI cable? Did you try restarting the STB and checking its settings? If it has set the HDMI resolution to 576i, your TV may not support that resolution through HDMI (through component it can).

Let us know the above as any of those can be the reason (especially HD picture resolution setting).

Yes I tried both different cables and different ports in the TV. It seems that there is no signal on the HDMI port of the STB. Further, the component cable also gives nearly the same if not identical picture quality. The resolution is 1080i. Yes restarting the STB also did not solve the issue. I have raised the ticket through the TS website , hope I get some assistance soon.

Similarly when I bought the HRT Music streamer it stopped working after a few hours. I took up the issue with HRT and luckily as somebody was travelling to the US I was able to get the same repaired from HRT. Hope I get the same levels of service from TS.

An update on my issue. Today I received a call from CC where I informed the guy of the problem. He stated that an engineer visit will be scheduled and the charges for the same would be Rs 125. As I stated that this is basically a warranty issue so I should not be charged for the visit he readily agreed and said that I need not pay anything. As promised a call came at 6 pm and the engineer visited my place saw the problem and said that the stb needs to be replaced and as he is not carrying a spare peice he will come tomorrow morning and replace the same. Then he placed a call to his support centre and had a set top box delivered to my premises and now the new box was paired to my card and the HDMI is working fine now.

A+ for the support by TS.

I agree that they act promptly on hardware replacement issues... In Dish TV had to send 100s of escalation emails, attended 100s of calls to finally get the STB replaced after 2 months!

After this issue has been sorted out I am inclined to take an AMC on their STB as my warranty is expiring in July. Any idea regarding the costs.

What I think is, it not the matter of being Discovery and Max HD pseudo Dolby but it is concerned with the content. As both of the channels do not show films, which have very nicely recorded 5.1 channel audio.
And I fully agree that not all films have pure 5.1 channel sound. Even all new films do not have this.

Nat Geo usually have good 5.1 content.. Hence same can happen with Discovery HD World if they master well at studio. Any recorded content can be mastered in 5.1 during content creation (like we currently see in Star Plus HD)... However TS seems to be doing it on the fly through some equipments (like PL2 processing on our AVR) and DRC which is essentially creating these issues..
