Sorry to be just off topic here - has the new Shield storage been reduced to 16 GB from the 500 GB? Or is there any other model with increased internal storage? More than the measly 16 gigs.

Shield has two versions. Standard has 16gb and the pro version has 500 gb

Yes and also u can use an external HD to extend the memory in the 16gb variant

Brother, This will be useful info for me. In my android TV long back I installed Kodi but not using because it was giving audio out in stereo. I continue using the inbuilt player. Have you used Kodi on your FireTV?

Yes.

Use the 32 bit Kodi Leia 18.1
But FireTv 4K does not support TrueHd. Dolby, and DTS are fine. (It outputs to Dolby plus)

Regarding PLEX Media server, one can also use NAS .....only issue I found is that sometimes I have to remount the network storage.

Otherwise Plex works just fine.
