Hey I just ordered a jds labs objective 2 amp kit.It was a quickie buy since my grandpa made a sudden plan to come back to India halfway through his stay in US.Now the problem is I don't know anything about soldering etc.I plan to make a cheap version of the cmoy amp just to get my basics right but I went through the o2 build guide and its damn crazy confusing. If I fail at cmoy, I want a backup.
So anyone who stays in Mumbai and has done such DIY projects help me by installing the amp for me ?
If you guys can help me in anyway - by giving me steps to follow etc to make this on my own [I highly doubt I may be able to make it work.Hope that cmoy amp project gives me some confidence.] it will be appreciated.
Thanks !

Why not just cancel it, and get a completed board, at least, if not the fully-finished item?

Mind you, JDS are very quick to ship --- but they are also quick to respond to customer enquiries and problems.

I just convinced myself of the difficulties of electronic soldering, making one working mouse out of two dead ones. It works, but it is a mess, and I destroyed one pcb. I wouldn't like to do that to a piece of audio kit! Sure, it only takes practice and we have to start somewhere ... so, if you are willing to follow that path then go ahead. You'll learn a great skill in in process :)

If I cancel I wont start the cmoy. Also I didnt have cash to get the full built set.I think I will have to face my demons alone.Anyways if anyone wants to help me out please let me know.Thanks.

Then your best bet would be find a FM in Mumbai with the soldering skills or else contact FM "audiodoc" who I think did and made us aware about the JDS O2 amplifier.

My time permitting, I will be glad to help you put it all together. Yes, i am good with the soldering iron. I am located in Mumbai.

Can you please provide me a link to this kit / product so that I can review the extent of work involved ?

I checked out the site.

If you come over with the kit to my office (Worli) post lunch, we can assemble it and you can take home the completed product by 5 pm.

1st Week of August will be ideal for me. :)

I built the O2 amp from a kit I bought from Headnhifi.com sometime last year. I think it took me only a couple of hours to solder it. I am in Navi Mumbai, let me know if I can help.

Thanks a lot guys !
I will get the kit around August 5th.
In the meantime I plan to construct the cmoy diy amp on my own.I am a little confused on which basic tools to buy.I want to get some cheap good quality tools.
I need a soldering station, solder, dmm and other small things.

I searched on ebay and got some cheap kits but I dont know how good they are for such projects. Can you folks please check it out and let me know if I should go buy them.If not please kindly list some good cheap quality brand tools.I have around 1k budget on tools.

Soldering kit with PCB Components box solder wick iron stand diode capacitor LED | eBay

New Digital Multimeter With High Range - Excellent Qualtiy @ Lowest Price..!! | eBay

New 8 Piece Soldering Iron Kit : Complete solution for soldering | eBay

Soldering Station with Soldering Iron (12 Watts) - with original bill & packing | eBay

Basically what I know is I need a soldering station which can give stable temperature and some good quality solder. So are the above tools good enough ?
Let me know.Thanks.

Btw this forum is weird on posting fronts.I need to get mod approval in my own thread.I would like to know the reasons. Also I cant pm any members since I have low post counts. That's totally weird. :(

Well I can now pm people so all's cool. But an important post that I posted earlier about which tools to buy still hasn't been approved by the admins due to some links I posted.
Anyway I am going tomorrow to Lamington Road to buy the parts for cmoy amp and some basic tools. Can you please suggest me some cheap good quality tools - soldering iron, solder, desolder pump ,etc.
Here's what I'm looking at : -

soldering pin 15-30w
Mx-441 Soldering Irons - 25Watts

solder :
25-30 mil solder diameter
63/37 composition

Any tips/brand names you can suggest me ?Thanks.

Buy Soldron 25 watt model with the default tip.

Solder: try Max Gold brand, 22 AWG. I think this is 60:40.

Screwdriver set: the Taparia C812 set is really good. It also has built in electrical tester.

You will also need a nose plier, combination plier, wire cutter. Buy the best fund permits. MTC, a Japanese brand, is really top when it comes to wire cutter, especially side snipper.

Guys I got all the parts.I got few cheap kits -1 watt mono amp,1 metronome,1 happy bday audio kit.I also got parts for a cheap version of cmoy amp.But I couldn't get opa2132pa anywhere.I will have to order it I guess. In the meanwhile I am going to start with my other kits. Will update soon.Wish me luck :)

No need to wait for/buy the opa2132pa.you can use the 4556opamp that comes with the O2 amp in the cmoy.only-dont solder it directly.use a socket.and mind the voltage supplies too.
or else, since you are doing a basic cmoy only, get a ne5532 or tl072 locally.for a basic setup-you wont notice the difference at all.

Not all op-amps can work as a drop in replacement, its best to look at manufacturer spec sheet for pin configuration to ascertain if it'll work in that circuit.

If in doubt ask here, all the best.

Sorry if this kinda noobish but if I change the op-amp do I need to change the circuit - like the resistors etc will change ?

Hi buddy,
first you setup a small work bench. learn to solder. caution about soldering- never use external flux. flux required is inside the solder wire. first make some simple circuits. amps are really simple to make. just follow some simple rules.
I would like to recommend a site full of information for noobies and experts alike- Rod Elliot's site- sound.westhost.com. just visit there. you will be amused.
carry on with confidence. happy DIYing!

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
