Onida BDX1110 Blue-Ray Player Owners

I think the 4990 deal is not available anymore, do let me know if it is. I may buy another for bedroom

@anm Have you tried playing some files from the USB port, i mean using either a pen drive or an external drive? Does it support more than 4GB USB drives? Also, any idea what formats are supported on USB (say mkv, avi etc.)?

Thanks,
Shail

I have a PS3, so can play Region 3 Blu ray discs.

I do not have patience to wait for a affordable multiregion blu ray player.

is onida good enough ? i just want to use it to watch movies using my home theatre and HDTV.

For Rs 5000 That is good enough to get a blue ray player.

If it runs the blue rays with no issues I am more than happy. That too region free.

Thanks

yes it is good enough to play BRs. as a media player, it may not be good enough

Can you please elaborate? Why do you think it's not as good as a (HD) media player? Does it not play HD media on stored on a USB drive or no support for 5.1 surround (lossy or lossless)? I am curious.

Just tested with a region free blu ray disc(Narnia prince caspian) on my new onida bdx 1110 fed into my Panasonic ae 900u projector. There is so much of difference between a dvd player feed to blu ray player. My proj is 720p resolution. I fed the input thru my high quality component video cable. The colors are astounding.

Lot of times on this forum, I heard we are not going to watch Dvd once we see blu ray movies. That looks like to be true. Last couple of years I had not watched many movies because of the quality of the picture comming out f dvd. That looks like it is going to change. Need to buy more blu rays.

Have not tested the region free option. I would like to do it. Need on US region blu ray disc to test it out. Anybody there to who can lend let me know.

Happy that I finally made the move to blu ray player. Had been thinking about it for more than 2 years. the prices of blu ray players were sky high in the range of Rs 20000. Having spent significant money on my audio part was waiting on the prices of blu ray players to fall.

Now My proj has around 1700 hours on it. I am happy with a 720p proj. Brightness seems to be fine. May be in a year or so when the lamp run time goes beyond 2000 hours, I might look for lamp replacement. For now absolutely happy with blu ray player purchase.

Only problem seems to me right now is the price of blu rays. I am thinking of budgeting for 2 movies every month.

Thanks

Tested the region A dvd in my onida player. works alright. no Issues here.

Not sure of the sound problem. I tested transformer revenge of the fallen and avatar, I was happy with the sound unlike the one from narnia the prince caspian.

I need to do more watching before I can confirm anything.

Thanks

5k for region free BDP sounds too good to be true. And I am vary of Onida brand a little.

Can someone confirm quality and usability vis-a-vis Sony / Panasonic

build quality seems ok for 5k, in fact the tray looks quite sturdy compared to philips dvdps I had. Now sure if it can conk off in few months like philips did several times.
Is it still available for 5k somewhere? I need one for my mother's bedroom. It is a better buy than an dvdp.

I have personally checked the player at Anant's place and I found out that the player lacked the finesse in Picture quality and had a lot of grains in the closeups shots and a Blu Ray picture looked worsed than a upscaled DVD. I did the check with couple of Blu Ray disks at Anant's place and then came to this conclusion. Even an entry level Philips, Panasonic and Sony Blu Ray player gives much better picture performance than this Onida player. Also the player's USB doesn't support NTFS Formatted HDDs.

That does it for me. I would rather buy 2 BDPs of different regions than put down my money on Onida.

Good or Bad is based on ones perspective. There is no absolute best or bad in this world.

I wanted to check out a BD player. I think it does a job much better than my previous DVD player. That is wonderful. That is what I care about. I am very happy with the sound as well as the picture. I have not checked any other bd players.

Also having best bd player may not help many times. You need a good display system. I feel My 720p projector with BD player is good may not be best.

There are others on this forum whose comment was onida vs ps3 no much difference.

Last weekend has been the best I enjoyed the in my movie watching experiance in atleast last couple of years.

It is difficult to trust anybody. You trust yourselves. Go for whatever you find it the best.

Thanks

Ashish - you shall come over to see it again. I think it may be due to sitting distance. When I watch movies on pana v20 PQ is much better - the display is smaller and the sitting distance is larger. Also panasonic may be doing few things better than samsung. I will bring it to your place to further see if this is player or samsung tv issue.

otoh - I was watching tata sky hd+ "I hate love stories" on their HD channel and PQ was very good. It must be the bdp at fault therefore.

this player is not region free anymore via the hack..i got a friend of mine go check it out and the said hack didn't work....it came out" Prohibited" when codes were entered.

Can someone reconfirm if the BDX is no longer region free as suggested by logicmyfoot? Also will it output 7.1 over HDMI and will it also suppport 3D?

guyz i happen to check the player today at random store and the remote hack worked! :-D , apologies for the incorrect info before i guess my friend messed up inputting the code
