Hi,

After getting confused over again and again, finally have made up my mind to go for Onkyo TX 8050 as don't think there is any other competitor in 'networking stereo amp' category at that price point and after all it makes good sound and hence liked it.

Auditioned Elac floorstanders with this amp in Onkyo Wonderland in Bangalore and fell in love with speakers but when I went back in 3 days for second review, they were gone and according to this dealer could take 6 months more before new stocks come and definitely can't wait that much.

Then the ones short listed are as follows in the descending order of preference:

  1. KEF Q700
  2. Monitor Audio BX5
  3. Polk Audio RTi A5

Though they all sounded good to me with other stereo amps not sure which one fits best for bright sound with deeper bass for Onkyo TX 8050.

Please help as unable to find any threads similar to pairing this amp with any of these speakers.

Regards,
iNeel

Hello iNeel,

Good to see a fellow TX 8050 owner on here. What kind of music do you listen to?

Hi iNeel,

If you are yet to get the player then I think the newly launched Marantz 610 is similar to the Onkyo but with added benefit of having a CD drive. It is also going at the same rate as Onkyo around 35k in hifimart after 10% discount. Not sure whether you can have a demo as I have not seen any dealer having this for demo. Even I am contemplating to replace my individual internet/local fm player+denon amplifier+cd player with Marantz 610 as at this price it is a killer.

Monitor Audio BX5 should be a better match though I have heard it with this specific Amp model

Hello friends,

has been very busy since last few days and hence no log in :(. Sorry for no replies.

@Nikhil: I mostly listen to soft rock, country, disco / pop and lot of Bollywood as well. Hence would be nice if speaker has a good low end and mid range as well apart from decent throw at times when I really ask for it. Am I asking too much?

@Manniraj: Have considered Marantz 610 as well but haven't been able to audition it anywhere and hence thought Onkyo would be a better option. But the purchase might actually happen either this week or next week.

But shamelessly have brought in another contender as follows but only heard them together with KEF and yet to hear them with Polk Audio (same dealer) and Monitor Audio (this one is difficult as the dealers are different):

Denon DNP 720 AE Network Player + Denon PMA 520 AE Amplifier + Denon DCM 500 AE AE 5 Disc Changer

I must still admit though that Onkyo was brilliant with Elac

@Prosenjit: May be I should first buy Amp and then as you said try them with speakers. Will keep you posted.

@Raaga: Will first buy amp and then take it straight to hear it with BX5 as same dealer don't stock Monitor Audio.

@KiranPS: Sorry have never heard of Epos m12i...I listen to soft rock, country and pop mostly. Would you suggest Epos m12i and where could I audition them in Bangalore?

Thanks all for the replies.

try the KEF Q700 series. These speakers are equavalent or better than the MA Silver RX6 series, so obviously they are better than the MA bronce series. Polk RTI series is famous for hometheatre movies, but I wouldn't even think about them (out of your 3 options) if I plan to listen to music.

I recently auditioned the Dali Zensor 5s
I have listened to a couple of speakers before them - KEF Q500, Polk RTi9, Klipsch RF42, Wharfedale Diamond 10, Mordaunt Short Mezzo 6, Paradigm Monitor 7 and Boston Acoustic A360.

The Dalis were the most beautiful sounding by far.
Next came Paradigm Monitor 7s and the Mezzo 6 tied together

Definitely consider these three speakers - though Mezzo 6 is probably a bit over budget
