Optoma HD141x HD / Full 3D

Buoyed up by the remarks on HD141x on this thread particularly, I went in for one through amazon.com and glad to report that I have it in possession. Although I have an excellent 2D PJ (Panasonic AE4000), I needed one for 3D projections. Many thanks to those who gave candid views on this equipment and delivery route etc. I think at entry level HD141x performs well albeit spewing a lot of heat around. One could not of course ask for features like lens-shift for this price, I guess.

Here comes my issue:
I followed this link eBay given in this thread to look for GetD glasses, but since they are not available, ebay gave me a list of choices of dlp linked glasses from which I chose G15 DLP 3d glasses. Alas, when tried it would not sync and entitle me the pleasure of the 3D experience - showing instead overlapped 2d images. Of course I went through the ceremony of re-syncing, invert-syncing, etc still no joy.

Since I intend using this solely for 3D, not being able to view 3D is a deal breaker. I am still hopeful that this is only 3D glasses issue. I have since ordered a different one from snapdeal called Hi-Shock glasses. Keeping my fingers crossed....

Appreciate any input on availability of suitable makes of dlp linked 3d glasses - particularly in Bangalore.

I have a BenQ 1080ST projector and use these.

SainSonic Active 3D glasses

They work pretty well, Since you are in Bangalore PM me if you want to borrow one of my glasses to try it out on your Projector to check for compatibility.

Sad to know about your disppointment.

I am in bangalore and can give you my 3D glass.

Not that there is any problem in my PJ's 3D. Just that i have no interest in 3D technology itself. I had bought 3D glass just for testing purposes for 141x and it worked absolutely fine. Thereafter i never got interested to use them again...may be its just the idea of wearing glasses for any average movie length that is turn off for me.

PM me if interested.

Thanks both to Fillmore and Htfan17 for the offer to try the 3D glass.

Subsequent to my post, I received the specs of a different make - Hi-Shock and it worked well without any issue. So the bottom line is - please rule out G15 glasses for HD141X.

On the maturity of 3D technology, yes it is still a long way to go. Just the curiosity got the better of me over weighing the burden of second glass over my first, irritation and nausea. I guess for every five 2d movies one could bear to watch one 3d movie, but the novelty soon wears out if the movie itself does not engage.

A very very very short honeymoon!

I have been using (must I say 'pondering over how to use') hd141x for the last few days.

The main issue is that the device becomes completely unresponsive either at the start or during the playback. It becomes unresponsive to the remote, not even to the power button on the projector and I am simply not able to turn it off when it occurs. The only way is to unplug which shuts even the fan abruptly and so is not very good for the health of the projector.

When it works it works fine, but sometime when I try to change the display settings or anything using the remote it freezes. Sometimes during the power on, it simply would endlessly search for the source in hdmi1 and hdmi2 showing resolutions that bear no relation to the source resolution.

I have been owning projectors since 2003 and this is my 3rd projector and I have never encountered this kind of issues with my sanyo and panasonic PJs.

I tried changing settings in the av receiver to output different modes (passthrough, auto, 1080p, 1080i, 720p etc.) still hd141x could freezen whenever it wishes to do so. I tried even connecting the blueray player directly, but the results are not very different.

I looked up amazon.com and other av forums and most of those who gave 1* rating seems to be worried about this particular issue. They were able to ask for replacement units, but still reported the same problem with the new ones.

Is this a firmware related problem? Any body in India has seen a solution?

it's very unfortunate to note this. I am sure you would have tried changing the HDMI cables if it's creating any issues!

Yes of course.
Tried different makes, different lengths (1m to 25ft) and different versions (1.3 to 1.4a).

Hello,
I don't know if you have same issues as mine. Just 2 days before I found solution.
I had issue of, when some one switch on fan, tube light, my TV - projector just get blank, some time I get error on TV "resolution not supported". Then I have to turn all off and then start all again.
I have called all electric guys and even from electricity department could not solve it.

Then I purchased 2 new hdmi from chroma "Hama gold hdmi - 899rs. " now suddenly all flickering gone.

So your issue is may be not good HDMI. Try bit heavy once which supports 4k and ARC. I used same and now no issues from last 2 days.
Hope that helps mate ;)

I can assure that I am using a top notch 3D high speed ARC hdmi cable.

My problem is neither flickering nor due to any electrical interferences.
It is inherent problem of the projector reported in other forums too on its sudden lack of response to the remote or its own control buttons.

I can play hd signal from satellite, then switch over to play a bluray in 3D in and when I switch source back (or some times upon doing nothing) it goes berserk and no response. One has to SWITCH OFF THE MAIN POWER SUPPLY and turn it on after a due cooling process to get the controls back.

I am surprised that the forum readers have not had freeze issue of remote control around 3D playback or switching of sources - as documented elsewhere.

Trust me buddy no one is hiding errors here. Its just a coincidence... touchwood... that we have not encountered that issue till date. I have crossed 500 hrs of usage.

Sure. I am in a way happy that most people do not have this issue and they are able to enjoy! :)

If you want to find out the exact duty charged, ask the couriers for the hand-written sheet on which the duty is assessed by customs. They are required to provide it. If they don't, write to jeff at amazon dot com
Couriers are known to lie (to customers and Amazon) about customs duty charged and pocket the difference.

For every purchase I made from Amazon, I use to ask for the Duty Invoice from Carrier (DHL/UPS mostly) and they have been sending the same without any hassle, whenever I saw difference, I pointed that to Amazon and got the difference refund (even of 1 - 2 $$) :)

Bought this off Amazon and got it last week on 25th May, exactly 10 days. I finally got the 106" projector screen and mount and got it set up yesterday and then found out that my 20m HDMI cable shows no signal, and that is due to the long distance of the cable. I had got it cheap from Ebay for 1200 bucks, but didn't know the fact that HDMI cables 15m and up can be tricky for video playback unless you buy a high end cable with built-in repeater.

So bought a new 10m cable yesterday locally and that was working perfectly fine. Unfortunately i faced the issue that neel has spoken about, my controls just froze, but the video was playing. No remote keys were working and projector keys weren't working either. Had to switch it off from the main board.

I hope this is temporary, else it's a scary thing to do everytime!!

Good news is that i got my custom duty amount refunded fully!!!!!!

So finally got my projector i bought from Amazon on 25th May (10 days exact) and then bought the projector screen along, ceiling mount and 20M HDMI cable from Ebay.

Got my electrician to set this up yesterday finally and after hooking the HDMI to my AVR's HDMI socket, i see No Signal, and my heart dropped!! I had already checked the projector the day it came just to make sure it's working and it was with my smaller HDMI Cables.

Read posts in avforums that longer HDMI cables (15m or more) tend to have this issue, so either use high-end HDMI cables for this long or use HDMI repeater to boost the signal. I bought a 10m cable to test and it worked perfectly fine.

Also i did notice the exact issue Neel has mentioned in the above posts, hoping it's temporary one. Good news is that i got my custom duty refund back yesterday!!!
