About declaration part will need to wait to get clear picture because no one mentioned clearly about it anywhere,if it needs to be done for personal use as well..if really need to declare then will declare any time in financial year,that's not a big deal.

Beg to differ. Customs duty is different from the tax component. The duty is purely on the Exim products while tax is something levied on literally everything. The former is to discourage people buying foreign objects, while the latter is about revenue generation to the government.

Sorry @neel, not to carry this conversation on and on. I checked with my Auditor (CA) who has some specialization in these sort of things.

He says, If you are directly importing the projector from outside India, the ONLY tax or duty which applies is the CUSTOMS DUTY. However, if you are buying an item in India which has been imported by someone from outside India THEN you pay a tax (VAT). In that case, the importer would have included the customs duty he had paid in the price of the product.

(I would welcome other views on this based on input from tax experts.... Obviously I would prefer that I dont have to pay the tax )

And further, I checked with my HDFC Bank manager.... he says, only when a payment is made through bank remittance, Form 15CA or CB may be required in certain cases.

I paid through Credit Card... so there is no need to automatically submit the form. Customs Duty is the only tax that is applicable.

I also talked to my companies CA and he confirmed that I will not face any issues on buying items from amazon, after insisting him to take a closer look on this issue he told me that yesterday our company ordered Biometric devices from US worth 1.8lac and if there is such issue I have already informed the owner.

You dont incur any tax obligation other than custom duty while buying stuff from amazon directly. This is a relatively cheap projector, even if one gets the 3000$ Sony or Panasonic along with a screen and mounts the obligation shall be limited to custom duty.

No extra step required. Once you activate this setting, the 3D image will invert sync instantly and you shd see everything in order. Now note that I am not sure what is default setting in your glass - invert or no invert so I am not sure if the issue we both faced is really identical. But rest assured, once you activate the option, PJ will memorize it for next time when you turn off and turn back on.

@htfan17 - Thanks for your valuable inputs on the Optoma 141x... In a few days I will join the ranks of proud owners of this Projector. Regarding the 3D glasses, what is the exact model number you are using? When I click on the link you have provided, it goes to a page where there are many 3D glasses, most of them saying it works for Optoma... I am confused which model to buy...

Yes i agree with Neel on this part.

I got the total refund of 12K customs duty, but i had to email them about it first. My carrier was Aramex.

When did you place the order? Did you submit any documents to get the refund? My carrier too is Aramex and according to the tracking info, the item is already in Hyderabad :yahoo:

Now I am eagerly waiting and hoping that I too get the customs duty refunded

Well i didnt any submit any documents, i just took a chance and sent an email to them after 3 days of getting the projector to Amazon for refund ( i got the motivation after reading that someone had received a full refund in this thread around Jan i guess).

To my luck, they agreed and then told me i'll be getting a full refund since the customs duty i paid in Amazon was i guess higher than what was actually charged. If you go thru Amazon refund policy, if there is a difference in the customs you pay in the site and what was actually incurred, then you are entitled for a full refund.

Thanks Krishnan. yes I can see that model is no more there now. But its no big deal . as long as it specifically says the words 'active shutter', 'DLP' and 'for projectors', it should work fine.

Its only a guess but the best model i think shd be the optoma's latest model Zd302 available on the same page for about 9K. but frankly speaking, given the limitaions in an average home for fully immersive 3D, paying that kind of money is insane. So any cheaper glass should do fine.

Its not a one off thing. Every single time i have ordered (must be over 100 orders now), i always pray that amazon delivery gets delayed. Roughly one third of the times i have received just one day after the committed delivery date. All i do is inform the same to amazon customer service and get the full shipping refunded without any argument.

It has not become the most customer friendly company on earth for nothing. they really care for what they commit. Amazon (US) rocks
