Just ran a quick test about colors and sharpness of my panasonic 55ET55 and Epson TW 8100.

Paused a scene on the wall on which I have LED too and see the difference in visuals. Its massive

Is this normal?

No really, something wrong with the settings I guess... shouldn't be this level for a PJ that costs so much. This is day and night difference, wish I could show a pic but my HT doesn't have a TV.

hw much hours the bulb has run? Did your try changin the pic mode to bright/dynamic n check.

normally PJ's will be less brighter than LED's but if the difference is large as you feel, bulb replacement could you be one option if the current bulb has run like 3k+ hrs.

Bulb has done some 10 hours only but even if it opens up after 100 hours do we expect to get the performance even 80% close to the LED?

All colors looked washed out, detailing wasnt that good in comparison for example the Logo/Text on building in backdrop

This is really a HUGE difference

I am already on dynamic mode :)

I tried adjusting basic brightness/contrast/color temperature but nothing made any visible difference.

You see the sky? It looks completely washed out

The Dark tones in color of Chairs is missing

How far is the PJ from the screen, what is the distance. My 3 year old HD20 produces a better picture than the one i am seeing here. Definitely some issue, please check calibration settings, also check the picture settings. Are you projecting on a screen or a wall. Is there any gain on the screen.

I am projecting from 13-14 feet

Played with picture settings but no improvement

For comparison sake I projected on wall since Screen on top of my LED and when its pulled down I shall have no way to compare in this "overlay format".

I am using Liberty Grandview 120"

Suggest you borrow a calibration disc and calibrate your projector. If you are not comfortable doing the calibration- Have a professional do it for you

Here is another Picture for comparison

Till the top of LED (notice the strip) I had Screen pulled down, so half of Image is projected on screen and part on wall. While this is being compared with LED display

Still there is major difference in how the colors are produced, sharpness, saturation, contrast.

Honestly? It's the TV picture that looks like crap. Either way, I am sorry my friend, but comparing a direct view TV, that too a LED back-lit TV with a front projector and a 20" picture with a 120" picture, is pointless if not just plain silly. No decent Home Theater projector will produce the kind of brightness that a direct view TV can and that is not necessarily bad for the projector actually.

Thanks for your insight, my quest is not to match the PQ of TV however to understand the difference one should expect between TV and PJ viewing.

This is a 55" Panasonic ET55 and pictures I have taken are much more overexposed. My bad, just used a Phone to quickly take a shot. Otherwise to my understanding the TV has one of the known PQ.

Have been reading forums FMs vouching the quality of same PJ Model to be so good that they would compare with PVR and thats one thing which I is making my expectation higher :)

Epson technician visited yesterday to check setup
according to him, projection on white wall is better than Grandview Screen

Did you check the quality on a white wall?

Did the technician recommend/endorse any other make/model?
