Hello

I am very new to the forum as well as to audio-video technicalities, so, please pardon my ignorance.

I have a Panasonic HiFi system and the main player is obsolete. I am planning to use the speakers of this HiFi to create a home theater. However, I have some questions and it would be great if I am guided on this.

1. Can these speakers be used to create a home theater?
2. Which is the best method to do so? What type of AVR can be used?
3. Which brand is the best?

My budget is around 25K and the speaker details are given below-

- Panasonid bi wired front speakers- 2 nos-each with Impedence High/Low=6ohms/8 ohms and Input High/Low=60Watts (music)/140Watts(music)

- Panasonic rear surround speakers-2 nos- each with Impedence of 8 ohms and Input of 60Watts(music)

- Panasonic centre speaker-1 no with Impedence of 8 ohms and Input of 120Watts(music)

FMs suggestions will be highly valuable and much appreciated

Thank you

You can use the speakers safely with AVRs as they have an impedence of 6 to 8 ohms. In 25K you can look for AVRs like Yamaha 371, Denon 1312 etc.

Thanks a ton baijuxavior.

another question - can I use a higher capacity AVR without damaging the speakers?

Yes you can use a higher powered AVR however you should play at reasonable volume to prevent damage to the speakers.

:signthankspin::)

What make and model of AVR would you suggest? I am looking to upgrade the HT over a period of time, hence would like to buy an AVR which will support better speakers when I buy them.

denon 1612 is a good choice....at around 25.4k..........
and yes if you opt for a higherf powerful avr..dont streess on higher volume...keep it under 40 percent safely

Denon, pioneer, Yamaha, onkyo and marantz all make good Avrs. You can checks their sites for the battery of features each include. Marantz and Yamaha are known to be slightly better for music which the others have a slight edge on multichannel audio.

Hi

Thank you Rupam, Prosenjit and audiodoc for your response and valuable suggestions. I am inclined towards the 1612 for the 26K price. However, while surfing i came across the Yamaha 671 @ 426 euro and an additional shipping fee of 80 euro on the amazon.de website.

Do you think it is worth a buy at this price? Transalating the total amount of 506 euros into rupees works out to about Rs.35k?

Also, can you advise if 1612 has upscaling to HDMI for video.

Please suggest.

Thanks

I think you can get Yamaha 671 for around 36K here with bill and warranty. One forum member (YPS) bought it for 36K. You can pm him for more details.

Denon 1612 has no upscaling feature. Upscaling is not an important feature as all current devices use hdmi out. It is useful only if you want to use your old dvd or stb without hdmi output.

You can buy from amazon.de. You will be saving around 9-10 thousand. But check if you need a step down converter for voltage. That will also cost you.
And what about warranty? will it be applicable in India?

Thanks for the suggestion Rupam.

I am not sure if it will have warranty as there is no mention of it. As far as my understanding goes all products from Europe work on 220V. This particular model will be shipped from Italy and I assume it will be 220V.

If I need to buy a step down converter, which make will be a good one and what will be the approximate price?

The V673 is available for Rs.51K on ebay. Is it worth to buy at this price? My budget will be stretched to max at this price :-(

Thanks

Hi

Is it worth buying from either ebay or amazon for that price, that too for 110v model. There is an additional charge of transportation of about $115.

Thank you

If the price difference is big, then it makes sense to import.
For me, it has to be under 50% of the Indian price to even consider importing.

But I do not understand the need for such an expensive receiver to drive Panasonic speakers.
I am not an audiophile, but probably it is better to spend money towards speakers.

Thanks K11.

Just to answer your question - I am starting with the receiver as I don't have any and will upgrade the speakers gradually.:)

I hope to have a full fledged system (both receiver and speakers) over the next 6-12 months depending on how I am able to manage the funds.

Thank you once again for your valuable suggestion :)

Apologize for my comment.

If you are going to upgrade then you can look into such high end receivers.

Buy AVR from amazon.de if you go for the import route. They are 220V devices and so no need of step down transformer.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
