Pioneer BDP-180 Issue, can anyone fix it?

Just bought myself a Panasonic UB820 4K Blu Ray Player which I’m over the moon with

I’ve still kept my Pioneer BDP-180 Blu Ray player because it plays my SACD’s, picture and sound are fine on it, bought it in February 2016, I’m now having issues with the disc tray opening and closing when pressing the open close button on the remote control and also when I press the button on the front, you press it to open or close and it occasionally works then doesn’t work for hours! you have to turn the machine on and off then again it may or may not work I have to push the tray in myself, I’d like to get it fixed or does anyone know what this issue could be ??

The Pioneer player is a very old model. I used it almost a decade back. Given most electronics are made in China, they all have a limited Shelf life of 3-5 years...if it works beyond that its a blessing!

Clearly the issue you are facing is a sign of weakened components / circuits on the internal boards. There are very few / skilled repairers who can really do component level repairing and it will cost you given their limited availability.

Today's technicians most are trained to do board level repairing which is fast and depending on what circuit board needs replacement the cost will be different.

The best you can do is search for a good pre owned player which can play SACDs and your other requirements which will be better. Ensure you have the most latest model.

I had an open/close tray issue with my Marantz cd player and it got sorted by the technician. Some times the tray would open and many times it wouldn't just randomly. It was a very minor issue.

On a side note even I have the Pioneer BDP-180 since 2018 which still works fine although I don't use it much.

I am having the same issue with my bd180. The belt has worn out due to which it does not open. The spare belt is not available in the market.
