I have been planning to setup my 1st ever home theater......I have a budget of 60K.

Requirements are 5.1 Speakers Set, I have shortlisted Energy RC Micro, Polk Audio TL1600, Martin Logan MLT2 cost of each set is around 30K. Would like to go with Energy Take Classic but they are not available anywhere in India. If anyone knows where can I find them please let me know.

Now about the AVR, my requirements of AVR are:
Channel: 7.1 (May upgrade with 2 tower speakers in future)
Ouput: 100 x 7 or more
Connectivity: Should have atleast 4 HDMI Inputs and Should have ipod connectivity, Airplay is not that important for me.
Video Upscaling: Should upscale my normal videos to 1080p

I have short listed one AVR that is SONY DN1020 which fits my requirements and costing me around 29 K on Gobal Ebay.

Please help me out.....I dont have much knowledge about this

There are so many threads about AVRs. Instead of sony, try models from Denon,Onkyo,Marantz or yamaha which come within your budget.

for AVR please go with Marantz, Denon, Onkyo, etc...............they are the pioneers in AVR's. Sony is great but for making tv's!!!
For speakers it all depends on your budget.........some of the names you can look at are wharfedale, polk audio, boston acoustics, mission, mordaunt short, jamo, Q acoustics, etc..........Also remember every speaker will sound different with different receivers. I personally prefer Marantz or Denon but feel free to demo various systems and them decide.

Hi Abhijeet, I would also suggest you to look at some locally available brands like Onkyo Denon, Yamaha and others. Sony has some great AVRs but sadly Sony India does not officially retail them in India. So auditioning them is not possible and also the after sales service/support will not be as smooth as other locally available brands.

If you still want to go with a Sony then I would suggest you to stretch your budget and go for Sony's STR-DN1030 - it has built in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Airplay support. Right now the STR-DN1030 has the best overall sound quality in the sub 500$ AVR market.

Energy's distribution in India is handled by Prodigi, so get in touch with them @ Prodigi India - Home Most Prodigi dealers also have Onkyo AVRs, so check them out too. You can also audition Polk speakers with Denon AVRs as most dealers have this combo.

Thanx everyone for your valuable suggestions....Since my budget is tight I have decided to go with 5.1 channel AVR and 2.1 0r 3.1 speakers and upgrade the speakers later.
Can anyone tell me how is YAMAHA RXV473 cause feature wise it look fab....but how is the audio and video output or should i go with denon or onkyo.
Please suggest....

I was in a similar dilemma like u r in right now. I decided to go with the yamaha 473.

To my ears it goes like yamaha 473>pioneer 822/922>denon 1612/1713.

Specs will always look good but ensure you also hear the receiver of your choice with your selected speakers.

Select all the AVRs available in your budget and take audition with right set of speakers. Let your ears decide what's best for you.
All AVRs at same price range have some pros and cons. But my vote will always go to Yamaha. They are more musical. :indifferent14:

Please tell me where can i fing yamaha 671 in mumbai. everyone's saying its discotinued.....and what is the best price for 473...redefine audio coating me 33K

@abhijeet... the quote that you've received is fair I guess. Before finalizing, check this page to find out nearest Yamaha dealers in your vicinity. Call them or visit their store to get the best price.

Denon 1612 is also one of my choice but again everyone I contacted said this model is discontinued and only one showroom in Nagpur (M&M) agreed that he can order my demand but he is asking for 30K. And in this forum I have read people got the receiver for 24-25K.....

Another help required regarding AVR power.....they give power for a amplifier as:
115W per channel (8 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.9 % THD, 1 ch driven)
80W per channel (8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.09 % THD, 2 ch driven)
If I am talking about 5.1 Channel AVR then does it drive only 2 channels at a time or it drives 5 channels at a time. And if 5 channels are driven at the same time then what will be the output of the same AVR.
And the second thing is if one AVR supplies maximum power of 80 Watts when all Channels driven then what is the meaning of taking speakers whose power is more than 80 watts and impedence 8 ohm offcourse......

Please help me solve this query.....

very good question.I am also confused about the specs detail.
but one thing is ..at a single moment there is hardly any scene of a movie having maximum power drawing at all the channels...so avr makers are not making such machine which can simultaneously feed all 6 channels at say 100 watts.....to reduce cost.otherwise cost will be wasteed making a potential which is of no use..
like having a power plant of 1000MW capacity supplying 5 different areas of 300 Mw each....now 5 areas=1500mw..but there wont be highest demand in all the 5 different areas at a very same time... considering 5 areas are say domestic, office, hospital, fqactory and agriculture....

it would be very costly to make 1500mw plant and 1500mw wont be used........did I explain good?

also full spkr rating is applicable only at full volume i think.

thumb rule of avr power per channel........power of avr(rated at name plate....like my avr is 390watt) although it says 660w considering the nsame funda that 110 watt per channel......
powrer of avr*80%
-------------------=each spkr power considering drawing same power in all the channles in a boom boom action scene say......
6

that makes m 60w each spkr safety limit for avr at any action scene and full volume..but as i said this case is rare we can go for 80w spkr keeping avr safe..and upto 100w keeping volume 50% always..this way........
am I correct ..please correct me..as I am also very confused and interested to know about the avr mentioned specs...
