please suggest speakers for my amp. the reason is (a) an upgrade itch and (b) a hankering for 'better' sound , which i cannot define at the moment.
the speaker (new or used) should be available in India and should not cost more than 1L.
i mostly listen to jazz from my old laptop (Thinkpad). though i also have a marantz 6002 cd player.
or do you think i should upgrade my source?
thank you in advance.

would be much obliged if any forum member could share their listening experience, if any, with these speakers..
TYPE 1.5 TOWER
they seem to be the more affordable variant of this one
SUPER 6XRS
the designer is the same.
i am not sure if it is available in India. for the super 6XRS the shipping cost in 2011 was estimated at 550USD. hence dropped the idea .

I would check out the Paradigm Studio 20 v5 Book Shelf Speaker (per pair) Rs 78,900 or if you want to stretch your budget a bit -- Paradigm Studio 60 v5 Floor Standing Speaker (per pair) Rs 135,000. Both these have excellent sound

Hold out until you find a Dynaudio Focus 110/140 or Contour 1.4. You will need a powerful, high quality amp to run these speakers.

My speaker itch is probably over forever since I got the Focus 110's.

Moktan, which amp do you have now ? Do you want a matching speaker or you are ok to sell the amp ?

Moktan, for the kind of music you listen to, I believe you should seriously consider the new Lyrita Horn speakers.

Please do not buy the Paradigm Studio 60 blind. Imho, it did impress when it came to HT applications, but did not seem to do so when it came to stereo.
Thtpro, no offense meant :)

the amp is in my signature(pun not intended). the speakers i had inquired about were recommended by Vinnie (who makes the redwine amps) as a cheaper alternative to the Omegas. i am aware that Amit of this forum was also interested in the Omega at one point of time.
the Hoyt Bedford fall within my budget, are single drivers with high sensitivity, use drivers other than the fostex and come from the same guy (Louis) who makes the highly rated Omegas. hence the interest.
as of now i am inclined to keep the amps. i am quite happy with the audire speakers. though it could be the bliss of ignorance.
but now that funds have somehow made themselves available i am making these poking, tentative inquiries.
of course the one thing that this forum has taught me besides audio and music is patience.
thanks all.

Mok,

Try to audition Ushers BE 718, ONE of the best book shelf i have seen the best review, Which occupies little space and bang the music of Buck.

If you look for the FS then there are more options in Tannoy, Paradigm, Quad, Epos,Focal Etc which cold satisfy your hunger for music

thanks. you are right. what i need are high sensitivity speakers. the Lyrita speakers are definitely worth considering. some other esteemed forum members too have asked me to think along that line. Even Vinnie has said its an idea worth considering.

thanks. my hunger for music is being satisfied. but like oliver twist, i want more.
i am aware that someone tried the Ushers with the red wine. the conclusion(i think it was someone in six moon) wasn't an effusive validation of the pairing but a kind of 'yes it could drive them' conclusion
i think Prem who had the red wine at one point of time also didn't think much highly of the pairing.
besides i am inclined , given my experience, to look for boutique offerings as they (it's just my opinion) provide great value for money, if things are done right.

Ajay thats also because Hifi is suffering from the Souten syndrome :)

For a moment I thought that 'Souten syndrome' referred to something coined by Sigmund Freud or Carl Jung. But when I googled for info the references which came up were mostly about the mind numbingly boring Rajesh Khanna/Tina Munim film :)

Hifi is still important to me but not as much as photography. I would attribute my relatively lesser interest in hifi to the 'Phil Ochs' syndrome. Most of the time I listen only to his songs and it dosen't really matter whether they are playing on my high fidelity system, computer, cell phone. Or in my head :)

At the moment I am listening to his hilarious and devastating take on pay television:

Phil Ochs - Talking Pay T.V - YouTube

Best Focal that fits inside your budget.

Other option you should look at would be ProAc. You can't go wrong with a ProAc, though they might be a tad north of 1 lac.

The older Rethm speakers with Lowther drivers are supposed to go well with that amp. You may be able to get a good deal on a used pair

yes. in fact in September forum member Hydra informed me about precisely one such speaker. it was the rethm maarga with the driver , mounting rings and the fascia rings replaced. the cost was 75K.
however the rethm people were apprehensive about shipping it because of the damage they anticipated to the two plywood 'bulgings' at the side.
i think it was picked up by another member of this forum from Bombay.
thanks all for your suggestions and recommendations. i sure appreciate all of it.

Hi Moktan, pardon my presumption, my personal thought is that you are not someone who would be happy with a "regular" speaker :o
i guess Lyrita Horns, Rethm and Omega are three great options for you which you would love.. (For Omega the Singapore dealer is willing to ship to india and you could wrangle a good deal)

Give the RedWine a hear with a Krypton TL speaker, if possible

+1 to the Lyrita. I have heard various Lyrita offerings over time and the horn speakers that Viren has designed are the best of his speakers so far (in my opinion). Given it's high sensitivity, it should be a good match with the red wine. He has 2 models, one which works in a smaller room, and another one which is more suited to larger rooms.

I have not heard Hari's Kryptons, but given your fondness for boutique VFM offerings, you should definitely be checking out Lyrita, Rethm & Krypton
