I have a Swift Vxi and i have 4 sony round speakers(1 on each door)
2 Boston speakers on the tray at the back. One woofer(coustic) with a sony 2 channel amp.
Running a Pioneer Head unit
thinking of adding another woofer and a 4 channel amp(2 for the new woofer and 2 for the boston speakers on the tray

Also is it possible to power the low power speakers on the doors with an amp.?

i would suggest you to ditch the sony speakers and get a good component set in the range 20K and coaxial speakers as rear fill and a 4 channel amp.
You wont be needing another woofer for this :)

2 is always better than 1! And the sony speakers are good and they do have more power in them as i have given the complete front to the 4 speakers and the rear to the boston speakers at the tray. And im a Bass lover so another woofer is very important to me :)

Sorry i didn't quite get you. Is the below your existing speaker configuration.

HU : Pioneer (no model Specified)
Fronts : Sony coaxials (powered from HU) (specify RMS too)
Rears : Sony coaxials (powered from HU) (specify RMS too)
BackTray : Boston ovals (powered from HU)
Amp : 2 channel Sony amp
Sub : Coustic (powered by sony 2 ch amp in bridged mode)

HU : Pioneer DEH-149UB
Fronts : Sony coaxials (powered from HU) (Dont know as dad had installed in 2006)
Rears : Sony coaxials (powered from HU) (Dont know as dad had installed in 2006)
BackTray : Boston ovals (350W)
Amp : 2 channel Sony amp
Sub : Coustic (powered by sony 2 ch amp in bridged mode)
And the front channel from the head unit has been given to the 4 speakers (the sony speakers on the front and rear doors)
Rear channel exclusively to the Boston Ovals on the tray.

If your are not going to change the Sony speakers on the door, then at least fed them properly. Because the HU will be outputting only max to 20 W continuously (even though in the spec it says Built-in Amplifier MOSFET 50 W x 4 )
Pioneer

What i would suggest is to

1) Ditch the sony speakers
2) Buy a good component set for front door (like Rainbow,DLS,Morel,Focal etc)
3) Buy a 4 channel amp (>50W RMS / channel) (like Kenwood,JBL,Alpine,Focal etc)
4) Power the front compononts from the 2 channels of the amp.
5) Try demoing another sub woofer in the place Coustic sub (preferrably 12 inch - JL,Illusions, Morel,Image Dynamics, etc.) either powering from the 2 channel you already have or the remaining 2 channels of the 4 channel amp.
6) Also replace the cables and get damping done in the doors and boot.

eFX components on the center door
efx 4200 4 channel amp
Hifonics 12 inch sub-woofer in a ported box
Rear door has efx 6x9's mounted.

Where's Bhagwan and hydra ? Two interesting setups I have come across are on their cars.

I like your suggestion of ditching the front speakers and getting the component set.But just as i said that i have 4 speakers attached to the front channel of the HU.So if i connect an amp to the front door speakers(components after upgradation) what about the speakers on the rear doors? Do i just leave them like that?

And i think i will connect the other 2 ch of the 4 ch amp to the boston speakers at the back tray.

Really good setup. can we post pictures here? If yes then please try to upload them.I'd like to see that.

You can still have the rear components connected to the HU. And yes you can connect the remaining 2 channels to the boston speakers. :)

These suggestions are made with assumption that your HU have a single RCA out (as per their site, that i have linked in the previous post) which can be either a Front/Rear or a Sub. That part you need to check.

If it has only one RCA which can either used as a Front/Rear or for Sub, then you may need to check for 4 channel amplifiers that will take the speaker level as inputs rather than RCA inputs.

Not sure about that! Will have a check and let you know!

If you are in the driver's seat most of the times, do not put components in the back. It will screw up your imaging and axis. Use compos in the front and coax in the rear. The compos do not need to run from individual outs unless you are going all active. Get a good 4-ch amp if you can...

Sorry to hijack the thread
I have a similar setup to arvind just that i dont have a woofer.
I have a Honda city i vtec and the front is connected to the door speakers and the rear to the speakers in the boot(pioneer speakers)
the speakers on the door are the stock that honda gave me.
I am thinking of putting in a woofer.

Please elaborate.

He is talking about going active .Lets enhance the idea with a simple example.
For eg : lets say you have a 4 channel amp.

The 2 channel of the amps will power to the midbass/midwoofers drivers and the other 2 channel of the amp will power the tweeters.
This setup is most achievable when you have a HU which can go active (2-way or 3 way)

And related to your other query, yes you can add a sub with the following two options.

1) New HU & new amp (cane be mono/2channel/4channel (for future use)).

You can change the HU and use the sub RCA out to the amp and then power the sub.

2) Not changing the HU and a new amp (cane be mono/2channel/4channel (for future use)).

Use an amp which takes the speaker level inputs and set the LPF (Low Pass Filter) freq to 80Hz.

Either way, you need a new amp & sub. Enjoyy :yahoo:

I like the prompt replies here :clapping:
And yes,it does have only one RCA. I hope the guy who is going to install these things in the car is as smart as you and understands what i tell him.
Dont you think getting a new HU with 2 RCA is a better option? Considering i go for more upgrades in the future? If yes than can you suggest the cheapest and best HU with 2 RCA's:D

Its ok.
Honda city has speakers on the rear door?

yep..thats the best option if you can do that. You can get a good HU with 2 or 3 RCA outs within 5-6K.
The brands i will look for includes JBL, Pioneer, Kenwood, alpine(hard to find one feature packed as other within this price bracket)

Sorry i am little rusty with the new model numbers as i havent checked the ICE department for a year since i am very much satisfied with my gear :yahoo:

BTW my setup is as below

HU : Alpine 9887 in active mode
Front Comps : Rainbow SLC Kick
Rear Coaxial : Focal
4 channel amp : Focal 4 channel amp powering the front compos
mono amp : Alpine mono
Sub: JL sub
Cables : Good cables, but forgot the name..hehe :)
Damping: Dynamat
Car : Vento

Your setup is pretty interesting! :clapping:
The guy who does installation for me has no clue what damping is
I told him it is "silver colour kaa hota hai, rattling nai hone deta" still he was giving me the clueless look. Where can i get damping done?
