Dear friends,

I have a Marantz SR5009 receiver which is 100 watts per channel and a SVS subwoofer which is 300 watt RMS power and in peak its 700 watts. Now I am in a process of procuring an online UPS. I am confused with the total voltage calculation about these 2 items. What is the power consumption of my receiver and Subwoofer? I am planning for a 2 kva online ups based on my calculations.

Thanks
Srikar

Don't go by power output specs. Look at power consumption specs.
Say your AVR is rated at 650W. This is at full capacity; and you will never run it at this output.
You cannot add up watts and arrive at a number. Convert to VA and then add.
For this, as a thumb rule multiply by 1.1 or 1.2 (about 780VA for amp)
At normal listening levels you can assume (for sake of estimation) a consumption of about half that meaning 350-400VA.
Do this for all devices and add up. You now have your VA or KVA requirement.
Then decide if the battery has enough juice to drive such loads.

My advice to you is do not run AVR/sub/power-apms/plasma on battery. They are power hogs and will drain battery very quickly.

Cheers,
Raghu

Many of the AVR manufacturer recommends not to run on UPS. They used to mention Warranty void if run on UPS.Please do check how far it is suitable.
