I just purchased a subwoofer : Golden Ear subwoofer Forcefield 5:

it's got a "
  • 1500 watt (peak to peak) custom digital power amplifier
"

Now the problem is - that yesterday when I connected it to the extension board which is in turn connected to a in-wall plug which is merely an extension-type plug, it was working okay. Played well, hit hard etc.
Today - it was sparking - when I switched on the subwoofer.
So - I promptly switched everything off and disconnected the subwoofer.

Was wondering :
1. Perhaps its better to connect the sub - not through the extension Board - Belkin, but directly through to the IN WALL sockets.

2. Do I need a voltage sabilizer or any other protection mechanism for the Subwoofer? The subwoofer is a class D amplifier.

hi. i had this issue. Dont connect through surge protector as Subwoofer takes much power if hits 20HZ. I would advise to get HAVELLS modular socket and switches It will fit tight whether its a subwoofer cord or av receiver it will work. here is the link
Here is my wall sockets they were installed after room was already built. When i got it cut there was red storm all around the room it was headache but worth it in the end. If you see there are total 8 sockets and switches. I got power plugs on bottom special for subwoofer and av receiver but now i run tv and receiver through vguard digi 200. But the thing is vguard also has same loose socket issue so i use my gaming monitor cable which is 3 pin. So i use this wire with avr its good and tight. Also i have these DIRECTLY FROM MAIN SERVICE LINE. If you see red wire on left it is directly coming from mcb board.

update: I connected the subwoofer directly to the wall socket 3 pin plug 5 Amperes. Going okay for the 1-2 times I switched it on.

ALso - I switch it off at night and when its not playing - even though it has a auto on off switch

Takeout the plug when not using

You can also check out Rontek Power Conditioner. I have been using one for over 2 years now with everything connected to it. Never had any issues.

The gear at my place including the sub is connected since the last few years as :

Avr/cdp/bdp/subwoofer>sound foundations barracuda extension board>stabilizer>16 amps wall socket.
