Hi,
Every few mins, the sound breaks for a moment. It is very annoying while watching movies. It is happening only with tata sky, and not with BDP.

While watching standard box on another TV, I noticed the sound jars once in a while.
So is the whole TS transmission screwed up? It is "barely tolerable" (actually not at all once you hear it) in direct connection to TV, however the sound goes completely mute for a second or two in my AVR setup in the living room.

I use TS HD and never experienced this problem.

Replace HDMI cable and check again.

I think its audio dropout at AVR. Check whether the AVR is heated, re-plug the HDMI cable, what is the pattern of dropout, I mean the duration of usage and the frequency?

I am having same issue since 10-15 days. I have connected HDMI directly to TV, and many times the audio doesn't come thru TV speakers. When this happens I use the SPDIF > AVR > 3.1 setup for watching TV :(

May be some software update is required or your TS+HD antenna needs realignment. Lodge a complaint with customer care.

I face the same exact problem once in a while. The sounds just cracks and goes mute. This happens only while watching hd channels. The moment I switch to a normal channel, the sound comes back. This has nothing to do with the Avr or the SDPIF card in the stb for that matter. I came to this conclusion since the sound once broke down in an hd movie i had recorded and it kept breaking down at that same time on playing it again. The problem is either in the stb or from the broadcasting satellite. That being said, I haven't faced this problem too often to complain about it and it gets back to normal in a minute or so.

I have hdmi as well as digital coaxial cables connected from my stb to the avr.

If you're looking at jbl, call this guy as he gave me the best deal in the city on my jbl speakers. Keep in mind that he doesn't have a demo room and basically operates out of a shop, and his service is not very good meaning once you've got the speakers installed, you're pretty much on your own. But yes, he is an authorized dealer and will give you unbelievable prices.

Instead of using HDMI cable use optical/coaxial connection to AVR. Indian settop boxes bounds to be problem with HDMI for sound.

I am using a digital coaxial connection and face the same problem. Its not related to the sdpif or Hdmi. Although I would mention I don't face this problem quite often, so there might be a chance that it is because I use coaxial instead of hdmi for audio. But the fact remains that the problem lies somewhere else.

If you are already using the coaxials, you shouldnt have any problem.

Second chance is if there's any drop in signal from coaxial cable, interruption can occur. If you are using the good quality coaxial cable then its fine.

Or there might be some issue with your tata sky's firmware for HD channels. As you mentioned it happened for another TV. You can check with tata sky's CC

As Kittu suggested I fear it is firmware updated issue -- only HDMI is screwed up and SPDIF is fine. Looks like there is no other way than dealing with dreaded customer service :argue:

Try dealing with Airtel DTH CC , you will be singing songs about TS+HD guys.

Can't agree more! I had Airtel HD earlier (I wish it didn't come free with my TV) and I got TS HD after 1 month free trial was over.
Even after 1 year I still get annoying SMS and calls from them despite repeatedly requesting them to delete my number from their database.
Sometimes I wonder if they have a 'customer harassment' division
