Projector mounting help needed.

So, after having my PJ screen made, it's time to mount my PJ which is an Epson 3020. During the last minute of making the screen, I decided to go for the largest I could do, and only after mounting the screen that I realised I don't have a mounting point for the corresponding throw distance.

Earlier plan was to mount the projector on a U-shaped beam on the outer of the hall, which is approximately 11ft from the screen.Now that the screen size has been increased, I would need around 15ft throw distance for optimal picture brightness and filling the screen. The hall has a stairway and including that, the front - to - back of the hall is 23ft.The unfortunate thing is that the ceiling is around 20 ft high at the stairway, just after the U - shaped beam ends - meaning I don't have a ceiling mount option after the U - beam which is at 11ft to the back of the hall which is at 23ft.

What are my options in this scenario?Also, plz consider and advice regarding the power plug and such accommodations I have to make near the point of PJ mount, so I cannot simply hang it from the very high ceiling,using a 10ft pipe or so am afraid.

How big is your screen? The back wall is 23' away from the screen, right? Place the PJ there (temporarily on some table/chair for now, wall mount once finalised) and see if you find noticeable difference in brightness or not (compared to same PJ placed at 15').

I'm currently using the tw8100 mounted on the back wall about 17' away from the 133" screen. Will be placing it further away in my new room where it'll be about 25' away from the screen. That'd mean I'll be using about 75% zoom which should result in some loss in image brightness. But life is a compromise. On my not-so-scientific trial of the projector in my new room (projecting on a wall instead of screen), the image seemed bright enough to me. Totally different conditions in my current and new room to compare the two but the performance from 25' away seemed good enough to me to not bother with ripping apart the ceiling POP and messing up the aesthetics of the room by hanging a huge ugly box on the ceiling of my bedroom. Give it a try and see if the performance is upto your liking

You can buy the normal cieling mount and custoamize it with help of veldor (people who work in iron shops and do welding). I have similar problem like you , so I had to cut the mount and fix it permanently. that was the compromise I made.

Thanx bro, I was also thinking about the same.But then, the problem of power plug connection remains.How did u manage to tackle this, if the PJ is hung at the center of the room and all walls are far away?

I won't be so sure of PQ being "obviously" inferior. Can't say about when the lamp dims down but for now, I doubt you'll feel the image as dull considering the light cannons these epsons are. And placing it further doesnt have all negatives either. Contrast and black level performance should increase with the added distance. So its not as bad as you think it'd be. Give it a try. There's a good chance you'll be surprised. But if you do see too much difference in the PQ then you'll have to run the power and hdmi cables along the ceiling. Either way, you'll have to comprise. Just need to decide which one you're more comfortable with

I agree with the previous poster-you may need to modify an standard mount to meet your needs. Try not to compromise on the throw, since you have a large screen.

Nothing so far mate...getting very less time these days and I am here with my parents every weekend.So, will be going back by monday, and have asked a local installer to come and check out the options this week.Hoping to mount and get it over with in max two weeks.Will update the thread accordingly...

Yea bro,that's my line of thought as well....will decide after having a tryout at the 23' throw distance and then seeing the performance.
