All,

I am in the process of setting up a dedicated HT in my new apartment. Room size is 10' x 14' approx. Initially i was planning to just get a 55 inch TV but of late i am considering projectors as an option.

I do not want a 3D projector i can make do with 1080i I guess, not necessarily 1080p. Since it would be on the longer side of the room i don't believe i will need a short throw or ultra throw. I see that the price ranges from 4,000 to 2,00,000 and that is where i am stuck

What are my options ?

Let me know if these specifications are not enough to narrow down.

Thanks in advance.

I just bought Optoma HD142X and I can vouch for it. The price including shipping and import duties from amazon.com came to 45000 (some deal was also there). If you can spend more you can also look at Benq models costing about 700-800$ (about 75k I guess with duties and shipping). You also need to take into account budget for AV Receiver, Screen, Mount and other such stuff.

I guess currently mainstream consumer grade home cinema/media projectors all comes with 720/1080p and 3D, no other choice.

as you do not need short throw projector, check Optoma, as suggested above. Economically priced and very good performance. Check for Amazon.de also, you may get good deals sometime.

Do you have budgetary considerations? If not then pick up any FHD home theater projectors from BenQ or Epson, should serve you well. If it has to be a TV replacement and lamp hours are a concern then LG's LED projectors (the higher end ones) are great options.
If on a budget then a multimedia projector like my Epson EB-U32 will do a stellar job on movie duty, costs less than the true HT models, does not do 3D but then I did not need that and neither do you.

I am using LG PF1000U .. and pretty happy with it .. and its really Ultra Short Throw projector with great capability ..

Thanks

a projector is definitely a better choice compared to a TV.. the bigger sized picture would give a much better experience. I have always bought Epson projectors, and I would recommend them.

If you have a good TV already for serials and news, and have good room which can be made dark as and when necessary Projector is a way better choice and most economical as well.

Projector any day. I watch 90" diagonal from 12 feet. TV just can't match the experience.

Since you have a dedicated HT where you can control room light, go for a projector without any second thought. Only the PJ will give you the look of a HT and not a TV
Any major brand like Epson, Optoma, Viewsonic, BenQ etc gives you good projectors. Never settle for anything below 1080i. You may also get choice between a lamp projector and an LED projector. I have tried both couple of years back, and settled on the lamp which was giving me better clarity at that time. However technology has changed now, please take a demo before you finalize
