Front Projection Screens

Now-a-days almost all the movies are shot in 2.35:1 ratio, not only blurays, most of the DVDs are in that format. If you play any wide format on a smaller screen, definitely it will leave top and bottom to accommodate the total width of the screen. So on displaying a 2.35:1 movie on a 16:9 \ 4:3 screen, it will have top-bottom black bars.

I have the UT50 Plasma . 80% of movies show in full screen.

Few movies have black bars.

BTW, what screen iNox or PVR has ? They never have black bars. Howcome ?

What ratio screens are they using ?

check whether the full screen movies are 16:9, if so,check whether the zoom is engaged in TV.

Simple, they are shown in their native format (2.35:1) with the projectors that support that format or wide screen lens (anamorphic projection lens). Its quite possible to make the normal 16:9 projectors to show 2.35:1 full screen by adding an anamorphic lens, but its quite expensive.

Quite confused. Can some one who has projector say 16:9 format screen , play different kind of videos ( 4:3 , 16:9 ,2.35:1 ) and post the pics to clear the confusion. I guess its too much to ask but it will be a great help for people like us.
Even I plan to buy 8100 in the near future and I have space for 8" * 6" feet ( 4:3 ratio - 120 inches ) screen but I plan to put 8 * 4.5 " ( 16:9 ratio - 110 inches ) so that its good for movies.But Am I not sacrificing a bigger screen for 16:9 ratio?
Anyway once I get a projector , I plan to finalize the screen but just trying to get to the bottom of it so that I can take a better decision.

Mr cmsajith is very correct.
thats why i was cofused.
all original blu ray and dvd must show 2:35:1 ratio...and must show black bars in normal 16:9 hdtvs....
soamz bhai please check your tv zoom setting...or player zoom setting..original blu ray must show black bars..
anyway thats not a major concern to buy a screen...as screeens are avilable in 16:9,16:10,4:3(cancelled of course)...and sqare(this is also cancelled)

dont know a perfect cinema ratio is custom made or not..(of course can be diy)

so 16:9 is the choice for versatility..as some hdtv programm or a game or a downloaeded 16:9 movie.....are 16:9

Great! Thats what I wanted to know.

So, lets forget the black bars now, as the screen and room will be completely black, so while watching the movie, no one will know about the black bars , as all looks black only. :clapping:

So, grandview 133 screen , manual one ?

i will vote for da lite.

Thump rule is to have a screen with max width wrt the room and considering the viewing distance, the height can be selected based on your preference. If you watch 4:3 movies, the max height screen is required (16:9 and 2.35:1 movies will show top/bottom bars). If you watch only 16:9/2.35:1 content, then better got for a 16:9 screen with top-bottom bars for 2.35:1 format. If you are so sure that you will watch only 2.35:1 content then go for 2.35:1 height.

Moreover use screen masks either manual or automated to cover the top-bottom bars, it gives better black also.

Yes, only BluRay movies . So, 2.35:1 screen is perfect .
My room is 14x17 . Is it okay to have a 133 screen with 8100 for that sized room , and getting the best experience from end to end of the screen ?
Masks come with the screen or that is extra ?

Nahi mila.

And surface type nahi samajh men aaya .
Direct model number with link please, so I can ask profx for a quote.
