Hi All,

Looking for speakers for a desktop setup. Space is tight, so max width is 7 inches.
Shortlisted Q Acoustics 3020i and Concept 20.

Mostly for music at low to medium volume, some movies and YouTube.

I'm specifically looking for used speakers.
Any thoughts on which would work better, or other options in this size?

Thanks.

My view is that the QA 3020i is too big for a desktop setup.
Its quite a deep speaker.

Even the QA 3010i would be difficult to fit on a desk.

Look for something smaller ?
Smaller than the 3010i? I already tried the Micca RB42 but didn’t quite like it. Do you know if there’s anything better available in a size smaller than the 3010i?

The Dali Menuet. But thats a lot more expensive.

Also, Genelecs. Again, very expensive.

Maybe consider the Dali Oberon 1s ?

The Menuet and Genelecs are out of my budget.
I’m mainly looking in the used market. Also it seems, Oberon 1 is actually bigger than the 3010is.

Oh, great. you’ve have both? Do you find they work fine without a sub, given their size and low-end limits?
Have not heard QA but Oberon1's will definitely need a sub since they do not give out much bass.

For desktop usage, ypu do not need speakers which goes really loud. Large speakers are an overkill in many case. Something like Adam d3v would save lot of deskspace while having better sound than q 3010 and the Dali ypu mentioned if not pushed too loud.

If looking at passive speakers look up the Energy CB-5. I have an older pair of tiny Energy speakers and they sound surprisingly good for a 4.5" driver.

If looking active, consider Audioengine which I again think sound great given the size.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did check out the Adam D3V and Kali LP-UNF they'd suit my space, but they're too expensive. Since I already have a main setup, I don't want to spend that much again. I'm looking to keep it around 20k for the speakers.

I'll check if I can find the Adams in the used market

Thanks, first time I'm hearing about Energy speakers. I'll definitely check them out.

I looked into it. The Energy speakers look good, but I don't think they're available anywhere in India.

If the space is very tight and your preference is music, the Harman Kardon SoundSticks (https://in.harmankardon.com/home-audio/HK+SOUNDSTICKS+4.html) is the best choice and below 30K. I am using the HC version II (Non BT) since last 15 years and it never disappointed me.

Or edifier mr3 or mr4 would be just fine. The idea of having huge bookshelf on a desk is simply too much effort, for no clear benefits. You won’t get the right performance out of them on a desk, and the space feels too much cramped up. Especially if your desk is near to a sidewall, one of the speakers won’t have enough room and bass wil become boomy. Smaller speakers are a better choice to me on a desk. I would avoid all this computer speakers of the 2.1 style all together though! Bass and mids never sound integrated on them! Q acoustics is a better choice than them in that case!
