hi,
I had a 5 DVD HT system (Samsung HT-P38).
HT-P38 Integrated DVD/Receiver - Home Theater Systems - CNET Archive

I somehow got my DVD player burnt and it can't be repaired (or i am not interested to get it fixed)

I was wondering if I can use my existing speakers from Samsung and buy a good Receiver (budget Rs 20K). I can upgrade my speakers later.

Speaker Specs -
5.1 channel
3 ohm (front/back/center) ; 3ohm for sub
84dB
134W RMS (front/back/center); 130W for sub

I need to connect Nintendo Wii, WD HD Media player (HDMI Out), Regular DVD player (AV out), Tata sky HD + to this.

Or, other option is to buy Onkyo HTS 3400 for Rs. 25K (quoted by Onkyo dealer in Gurgaon).

Please suggest.

It is better to buy onkyo 3400 rather than using the existing speakers. These 3ohm speakers can cause problems to the AVR.

Onkyo for Rs.25K is costly unless they bundle with some blu-ray player free. I bought my Onkyo HT-S3400 6 months before for Rs.22K.

Are you sure its 3 ohm?
I have seen 2/4/6/8/16 ohm speakers but not 3 ohm.

In addition, a consumer electronics company like samsung is less likely to have robust amplifier that can handle 3 Ohm load. So if samsung amp could handle the load, its less likely to be 3 ohm.

Please check it again, at least for my satisfaction:) in specifications given in the brochure . It is likely to be 8 as i feel. If it is 8, then you can use it with avr. If it is really 3, better to dump them.

why don't you purchase a used receiver - there would be a lot available in good condition in this forum itself. Lot of ppl are looking to upgrade to 7.1 and HD sound (including me).

Samsung Amp is also 3ohm rating.
I am interested to go in for Onkyo HTS3400, so probably will dump this :(

I am sure it must be HTS3300. HTS 3400 got launched less than 6 months back.

Where did you buy it? please send details, so that i can check if similar deals are available.

Best deal I can think of is buying from ebay India, and use sme offer like (ganesh chaturthi offer), wherein I can get 500GB HDD free(worth Rs. 2700) free.

BD player itself must be costing about 5K, so you got a steal.

Its HT-S3400 and I brought for my personal use and I bought it in Vijay Sales Goregaon branch for Rs.22000 with bill, warranty and installation. U need to do some bargaining.

I have checked in Croma/ezone/jumbo/reliance, nobody stock Onkyo HTS 3400.

Even Vijay sales in Delhi doesn't stock it. Croma had HTS 3305 whereas Jumbo and reliance don't stock Onkyo (so bad).

There is only one dealer and that too is quoting 25K for this model. He says during diwali, prices will increase :(

I want to buy it, may be wait few months till diwali - hope to get good deals.

Else, will buy online from ebay(use some coupon and get 500GB HDD free) - quoting at 25.1K on ebay with shipping/B&W.
