Hi all,
This is my first post here..been here for sometime trying to get as much information as possible before starting out. Its been my dream to own a hifi system ever since I was a kid and I had gone to my dads friends house where I saw and heard this multi tiered AKAI system way back in the early eighties...

Long story short...am in Hyderabad currently. My hall size is 10x20 feet. Was initially in a quandary as to whether FS or BS. I mostly listen to Rock , Pink Floyd, Eagles, ABBA, Eighties POP, Carpenters, Simon and Garfunkel...whole range of spectrum.

Went yesterday to Vectors to listen to Wharfedale . They only had 10 series...Was actually hoping to listen to Norge + wh 9.5/9.2 based on what I hv been reading here, many feel is a good combination. But had to listen to 10.5/10.2 . Could clearly make out that the FS sounded more to my liking than the BS . connected to a marantz amp . Somehow, I felt that something was missing..I mean, the sound from this 50K + combination should be better than what I was hearing ..had taken some of my own CDs ..Listened to 'Time' , 'summer of '69' , 'Sweet child o' mine' ..

A week before , had gone to U S K electronics in Somajiguda who are dealers of Polk, Denon . Heard the polk tsi 300 paired with a Denon cdp and amp(710) . I was blown away by the sound. Of course, the cd being played was not mine . I was not actually planning to go to that shop but dropped in...

Now I need some advices..Looking for help from esteemed hyd members so that I can listen on 9.5 or Norge ???
Any other suggestions that may be of help ..
And I forgot to mention my budget..Am really on a budget .. would not like to spend more if I cannot find a perceptible difference in the sound quality ...Hence wud like to keep it ~30 - 35 max for spks ..

I wud like to mention here that I'm also a member of other fora for photography, Computers...But the kind of responses that I have seen from various people here are just fantastic..u guys rock ..

Thanx

Even I would be setting up a stereo setup in my New House, and I also took couple of auditions for the same, for me Wharfdale 10.5+marantz amp+cd player were the clear winner in sub 50K catagory............Polk was the second best and B&W 685 though the most expensice did not impress me at all.......

and Heartly welcome to the Fourm......BTW ..... the last statement you wrote, that is absolute true and well said..... :)

Hi Stereorules,

Welcome to the forum. Please mention which Marantz amp was it. One of the low end Marantz amp i had heard was not doing justice to a good speaker. You may want to retest with a high end Marantz like the PM8003

Welcome.

I dont think you should rule out a stand mounted monitor completely-do the auditions first and then decide. I have 3 of them and a FS, each is different. The best SM monitors are better than the floor stander. Of course this may not be true in all cases.

30-35k is a decent budget for speakers. do listen to as much as possible before making a choice. Since you're looking for an amp with some heft, you could consdier the C320BEE that i am selling. It's a truly hefty amp (for a budget 50-watter) and would go well with floorstanders as well as standmounts.

Since it looks like you want some bass in your music, the wharfedale diamonds are a good option, and also do consider the Monitor Audio Bronze BR2. for 30-35k floorstanders might not be a great idea, but perhaps something from the wharfedale diamond line or the mordaunt short aviano series (i haven't heard them, but feedback is generally positive) could be considered.

Thanx guys for the responses..I will hv to be doing some more auditions..

Yes, indeed, stereo-rules, good handle.

I somehow couldn't get the - or _ in between..makes it a bit more readable..

Check out the Acoustic Energy Aegis neo 3
Thanx ..I'll have to find out where this is available in Hyd ..

I seem to have read about mission m35i also being good...Any suggestions ?

Welcome to the forum. Vector"s Balchander is excellent guy with good receptiveness. He generally suggests 9.5 over 10.5 and people in general prefer 9.5 as sales speak. But I don"t advise 9.5 unless you are cash restrained . 10.5 is excellant for sterio hearing for towers less than 34k. The Marantz amp at vectors that auditioned by you is 1.40 lac and the CDP was rotel costing around 38k.Another MARANTZ available with them is sterio receiver.
Pair 10.5 with NAD Amp for good SQ both on high , mids and lows . With 9.5 somewhat you have to compromise with mids. If you want to audition 9.5 you can do it at my place but I do not have a dedicated CD player . I hear on sony DVD paired with Onkyo AV receiver TX-SR 576.
There are so many show rooms having many international brands at Hyd but after many visits to them and auditioned many brands my conclusion for a good budget sterio set up is 10.5 + NAD.
Also please visit PRO FX at Rajbhavan road besides Bose show room where you can find Cambridge Amps and speakers toghther with other brands and the owner Mr. HARANATH is also highly customer friendly who is actually immediate competitor to the vectors on customer relationship.
