Hello folks,

"Reliance Digital TV's HD Set Top-Box comes with revolutionary technology that up-scales all 250 channels into HD like quality with video resolution of 1080p at 50 Hz" and "Reliance Digital TV HD and HD DVR set-top boxes are now 3D ready."

Here is the link - please analyze and opine

High Definition - Overview

Cheers!

Mods, please delete this thread. Its really irritating to see these kind of BS threads coming up repeatedly in HFV.:mad::mad:

@OP, Why dont you try with the DTH specific forums or atleast do a search in HFV before posting these kind of general questions.

Sajith,

I did the search and could not find a discussion on the new Reliance DTH STB that can put out 1080p, which is a lot of steps ahead in visual clarity.

I would appreciate if anyone can point to the threads where this has been discussed.

Thanks!

You will not find anywhere (Reliance DTH STB that can put out 1080p) because they dont do that.
Try the DTH specific forums.

this is old news, anyway not a big deal because your full HD flatpanel will anyway do the up scaling/deinterlacing to 1080p because it can only display its native resolution.so any input lower or higher is coneverted to 1080p
Now think which one will do a better job, your 50K+INR flatpanel TV or 2.5k INR rdtv stb

RDTV doesnt transmit in 1080p , it is just the stb function they enabled., had they been using professional studio quality equipment to upscale at source and transmit at a high bandwidth you could see a noticeable improvement but this is not that and basically just a marketing gimmick

then again it is a waste of costly bandwidth and they are better off by using lower loss compression method and transmitting in sd format itself

btw search in this forum is overrated, you are better off using google

That is exactly the point, High Definition - Overview says it puts out 1080p. We all know 1080i is what most DTH HD are.

Anyways, I have gone ahead and made the purchase, and if lucky enough can even get it installed tomorrow.

Now, could anyone please point to a thread or post in HFV where we have discussed this?

Thanks!

Thanks Borg. The picture got clearer now. That was some very useful information there and I am sure for most of us.

Cheers!

After I upgraded from sd to hd, I realized I made a big mistake. The non_hd channels became worse with the so called 'hd like' quality upgrade. Its actually a degrade. At 10+ feet distance there is not much difference though.

Does anyone experience this problem on Reliance HD. The channel selection display just sticks to the screen. It wouldn't go away unless you change the channel. It is something like this
