Hi all,

I'm very new to the world of speakers and to be honest I have found it rather overwhelming! Hopefully you guys can help me out!

I bought Bose Companion 20 speakers from eBay a few months ago for 100 in good used condition, which at the time I thought was a good deal as the RRP is around 200. However I find the sound they produce somewhat artificial, which makes them inconsistent: with some music they seem great, with other music pretty average at best.

I was wondering if you guys could recommend better speakers for roughly the same money. I listen to a variety of music, but mainly pop and club music (uni student) so some bass would be good. Due to my budget I appreciate a subwoofer is probably not an option though.

I have read good things about Wharfedale speakers, in particular the diamond range for my budget, but although some of the older models fall within my budget, I understand that I need an amp as well (this is how new to speakers I am). Good amps seem expensive and the only amps that are within my budget seem to be t amps.

I was therefore wondering if a t amp with Wharfedale speaker would offer a significant improvement over the Bose Companion 20s. My music source is my laptop or iPhone through a 3.5mm jack using Spotify Premium at 320 Kbps.

Thanks for your help in advance! :)

Hello Quick,
Warm welcome to forum. You are in UK so i would say its one of the heavens for HIFI. What is the Amplifier you are using? whats your room size.

There are plenty of Choice like MS,Polk,Wharfs,Pioneer,Usher,Dali etc in preowned market in UK to choose.
Note:Old Models are sometimes surprises you with the sound.

You could give a try, But we need the Budget for your Amp+speaker to suggest

Hi Audio_Freek,

Thanks for your reply. It is only a small room (about 3m x 3m). I don't currently use an amplifier. The Bose speakers don't require one: it's a simple 2.0 system with a 3.5mm jack input so I guess any amplification must be done inside the speaker unit. I don't want to spend much more than I could get for the Bose speakers so around 100, maybe slightly more if the improvement in sound is worth it.

No amplification can be done within the Spakers for sure. But you could get a small compatible amp Topping + small book shelf speakers.Check below combo which come around 100$ Only
