Hello Guys,

I am quite new in this..could you please sugges me a decent audio system configuration for i10.

i want both front and rear speakers. a decent head unit with gud display. usb support.

I have budget of 10 -12 k...

Thanks in advance,

Vishal

music preferences?

Are you ready to have a fixed parcel tray/hat rack at the back?

(note : a fixed parcel tray allows you to fit oval speakers but on the downside will cut down luggage space since you wont be able to fold it upwards like your currect stock parcel tray)

Do you drive or have a driver?

what will be your most common source of music cds,usb

Do you ever plan to upgrade to subwoofers, external amps etc?

we need answers to all of the above to suggest good options

Yes Magma is right, for example if you plan to upgrade to sub, separate ext amp etc you have to get a head unit with pre outs. No. of pre units acc to upgrade plans.
But at the said budget, an entry level mp3 usb cd reciever, a pair of entry level Jbl/polk coax at the rear, and a pair of boston fronts with int tweeter.

Hey magma..

i drive my self.. car s with cNg....so need to go wit best space option....no plans of expanding...source would be USb mostly....

@iaudio,..
what u mean by entry level...m so sory fo asking silly question..whts int tweeter??

thanks for ur kind reply..
look forward for the options now..
thanks again..

for HU
look at pioneer
Car Audio
you can get the 3000 series ( the 3290 UB )
(for better deals look at older models namely the pionner 3050

for the front
India JBL
or if not availble or you cross your budget then
India JBL

for the rears (about 3500 rs) to be installed on MDF rear parcel shelf
(if you are in mumbai you can pick up the MDF parcel tray from me if you want ( i dont use it anymore - mine is custom made under my supervision- its heavy one with beige carpetting)
India JBL
or if not availble then get
India JBL

another brand of speakers to consider if you are in north india or if your local distributer has it is "bull audio"
BullAudio
for the fronts component speakers
get model no. CS 650.75
for the rears ovals model no.
TRI 6090

Please find a good installer
even simple systems can get messed up with a bad install
be prepared to my about 750 rs just for installation costs for a good install . he will probably throw in the wires free ( that is if they didnt already come with the speakers )

all above equipment if purchased with full bill and warranty will cross your budget
you might have to settlle for grey.

^ +1

Kind of you to offer the tray... where did you get the custom made tray in mumbai?

hi vishal...........the combination suggested by magma are very good .............i have the same in car Pio+JBL..............i have them in doors only..........and realy they sounds gr8..........the only mistake which i did ...............i got my installation from a novice guy and he installed the JBL spk which have 6" cone and needs to be fitted with mdf ring ........but he installed without that(simply fixed them thru screws) .....at high volumes it starts rattling...........so plz get the good installer for ur installation.

6 inch speakers should be fitted with 15 mm MDF spacer rings only
make sure your installer has them
Ask him before bargaining for everything

Custom trays can be made by any good installers on request
i got mine made from Zohir at Boom in Bandra
They are not cheap though
the regular ones probably cost 500 bucks
mine i think was more than double that since i wanted a certain thickness, double layers etc..

Hello,

Just finalized on i10 and started the hunt for ICE. Been driving around with my 8 year old Alpine cst deck till now so a bit outdated with my knowledge :D

  • Apart from what Magma has already suggested (very good combo IMO BTW), what are the other options out there? How much would an Alpine cost?
  • Do we get HDD based systems here? Not so keen on carrying CDs. Being an album guy (as opposed to random-play guy), I would like to pick and choose the album I want to listen.
  • 1-DIN, 2-DIN, is it just the size and the display or something else as well?
  • Is it advisable to go for speakers in the parcel tray? Would the glass on the hatch affect the sound? (honestly, my alpine speakers are on the parcel tray and I never had any issues)
  • Any known issues with speakers in the doors?
  • What wires/damping should I go for?
  • Amp/Sub required? (not a huge bass freak)
  • Any recommendations for good ICErs in Bangalore?

And finally, other accessories you'd recommend...

Sorry for bugging you with so many Qs. I hope I'm not hijacking Vishal's thread

  • There are thousands of options in car audio, Magma has sugested only a couple due to budget constraints and since the OP seems a no nonsense fellow without any upgrade plans
To give you other options you need to answer the questions i asked vishal in my very first post on this thread and also specify budget and upgrade plans if any
Alpines cost anywhere from 8k to about 18k without a bill and warranty

[*]Do we get HDD based systems here? Not so keen on carrying CDs. Being an album guy (as opposed to random-play guy), I would like to pick and choose the album I want to listen.
    signthankspin:

there are HDD based carputers.if you are a computer guy and can DIY you can build a carputer based on intel atom
if not be prepared to spend since ready made carputers are not cheap
they probably cost more than your regualr basic home PC
the cheapest option is USB for HDD based guys

[*]1-DIN, 2-DIN, is it just the size and the display or something else as well?
    signthankspin:

2din is only for aesthetics and people who like to play tapes
otherwise they dont make VFM sense
Ofcourse if you like aesthetics and have a budget you can most definetely try out 2 din touchscreens from JVC

[*]Is it advisable to go for speakers in the parcel tray? Would the glass on the hatch affect the sound? (honestly, my alpine speakers are on the parcel tray and I never had any issues)
[*]Any known issues with speakers in the doors?
    :signthankspin:

An absolute car audio enthusiast would ask you not to go for rear speakers at all, ( for self driven cars)
not even on the parcel tray not even in the rear doors
He would probably advice you only front components and a subwoofer since rear speakers always tend to mess with the front soundstage
However this advice is not for everyone to take

Cars are generaly used by all family members and hence compromises are made where rear speakers make an entry (otherwise all the rear passengers would hear is the irritating thump of the sub in the boot)

Budget compromises/dicky space restraints have given way to rear ovals rather than external amps and subs

rear speakers on Parcel trays have their market and theres absolutely nothing wrong in using them since they make up for the lows when no sub is present

i could go on and on but the thread will get boring with the technicalities
just suffice to say that one should use rear parcel tray speakers if not using a subwoofer

there are absolutely no concerns with speakers in the door panels
i always advice using stock locations provided in cars since i like the stock no showoff look

[*]What wires/damping should I go for?
    signthankspin:

wiring depends on your budget and components you choose
    VFM damping is "Noisekill"
Contact / email Ajay Kamath of Hermit Audio for info and availibility on that
    Hermit Audio Pvt. Ltd.

[*]Amp/Sub required? (not a huge bass freak)
    signthankspin:

If you are happy with rear parcel tray speakers they should do for you
just make sure they are 9*7 ovals and not 6 inch rounds

[*]Any recommendations for good ICErs in Bangalore?

banglore has many ICE tuners, some of the best tuners of india are there who are also friends

Note : good installers are not cheap

woah! comprehensive response magma :clapping:

PM sent...

Vishal...bro let me know if I'm hijacking....

More info: Not sure what is a right budget...20K good?
music taste - mostly prog rock (camel, pink floyd, procupine tree and the likes) and some jazz and old hindi film songs...

I'm going to subscribe to this post since I too have a similar concern. Only, my Sportz variant comes pre-fitted with a system. And this one sounds rather bad.

what are you looking for from your system ?
are there any upgrade plans?
who and how many people use the car? is it a famly car etc etc or will you use it alone?
what is 20k allocated for ?
HU only, front speakers, rears what?

what are you looking for from your system ?

Looking for decent quality sound (not necessarily audiophile grade). Should connect to my iPod. Not a bass junkie, just need some good music while I'm driving. Not very keen on carrying my CDs in the car.

No upgrade plans.

The car would be mostly driven by me but mostly on weekends. My wife would be using it for her daily office commute which would be 10-15 minutes each way. Don't go for a lot of long drives a lot. The car is mainly for city use. My 9 year old Indica has done just 53K so you can imagine the usage.

what is 20k allocated for ?
HU only, front speakers, rears what?

Was thinking of 20K for everything (HU, spkrs et al). Not enough? I really don't have too much of an idea on what should be a good budget.

Hey Guyz

Has anyone heard of Mutant...???

Its a fabulous and a award winning Car Audio Brand, again from the UK Group Armour Automotive...

There 6.5" Components are really superb...

The head units, has USB, HDD Direct Play facility, apart from the same they have a product that is known as iO...This product is attached to your HeadUnit, and provides a wireless control to your Music, iPod, Phone, and automatically mutes your speakers when you get a call, there is a mike on top of your Sunshield... and your front two speakers act as output...

Try the same...visit the Armour Auto website mentioned below...

Thanks magma...i am going for the config u suggested.

Just once to confirm...

front speakers would be installed in doors and rear on parcel tray with mdf rings. correect??

i would ask for the tray at my place..but if i dont get..i would definitely contact you.

ALso,
by ne chance nebody has idea of a gud installer in baroda or surat..??

yes if you are buying component speakers for the front
you will notice it is a set of 4 speakers and 2 crossover ( that box with all the electronics in it)

the two larger speakers are fitted into the door panels
thereare2 small 1 inch speakers called tweeters - they ususally stcuk onto your dash

if you are really intersted and a DIY guy you can have pods built for those tweeters

the crossoversare generally shoved in some convinient placebelowthe dash

umm ... surat
i used to know an installer there but i forget his name

I think his budget is only 10-12k. Is it possible to get a good USB head unit + speakers for that?
