Satyaki Banerjee DIY Speaker Projects

F2a happens to be my own favourite tube as well though my own execution had been different which evolved with time.
As simple as it gets..sublime, musical.

12 in full range alnico single driver in SBB4 alignment driven by Thoress F2A11 single ended amplifier, Denon DP 3000 NE turntable with Denon DL 103 cartridge (110 anniversary special edition pre mounted on Denon headshell), EAR Yoshino Phonobox MM/MC with inbuilt SUT for DL 103.

Beautiful setup !

F2a happens to be my favourite tube as well though my execution is different and yields 9-10 wpc. My next iteration is with RS1003 which may replace F2a from the top spot.

looking really nice !

did you consider a full ranger instead of a 2 way design ?

what made you opt for the 2 way ?

congratulations on a cozy listening space!!
I was familiar with full range sound but we took a chance to build 2way configuration which paid well. It surprised me with my DHT amp with 300b tubes. Very smooth and solid punch full of dynamics. Satyaki still have not listened these speakers. I will invite anyone in Bangalore to visit my place and have experience of the setup which is performing to the best with current chain.
We came across few challenges which we sorted out quickly and now I am happy with my setup.

Here there is another update to my setup.

There were lot of discussions between Satyaki, me and Viren Sir how to make things more simple and perform well. The principal with Lyrita and Satyaki is If you are highly sensitive then probably you need less power to perform best and that get reflected in work environment also.
So we were already at 97DB and we took different route to make it with 2 stage Intergraded Amplifier with one volume pot and taken one selector switch for ON/OFF and one for source selection that to back side of Amp close to the points of use.

Tubes selection we did with RCA 2a3 and Driver tubes Russian 6S4p.

We can use 45 as power tube to get 1.5Watt.

With this we decided to built an amplifier and Virent Sir is always kind enough to support us and guide us.

Next Point we were in discussion to either take path of Vinyl or not. I was very reluctant as to me it was appearing bit messy. There were lot of options to choose from market and its really hard to find right product which can fit into your need and budget. Lot of confusion was floating. Satyaki was with me in this journey with great patience. To me rather that budget it was more of what improvement we are going to target.

More over Vinyl prices were also appearing scary to me.

At the end I was bit close to Denon DP 3000NE/EBI and Pioneer PLX 1000. Satyaki had good experience with Pioneer TT but I was taking time to get convinced with Direct drive DJ turntable. As community does not support so my feeling was also drifted. But my Engineering side of thoughts were challenging me on why Pioneer can not perform.

One fine day Pioneer person came in contact with me and deal became so attractive with the skills of the person which was dealing with me and I hope he is not part of this community. Thanks Abhishek in case you get to know about my post.

Finally I got Pioneer PLX1000 on my desk and it’s a massive TT. Right now its loaded with Ortofon 2m red and very soon its going to get Denon DL 103 and EAR Phonobox.

Kishore from Unbox audio was also kind enough during my decision of TT. I may come back soon Kishore - our deal is still pending.

Setting of Pioneer is very easy and in case one is familiar with TT is not more that half an hour to install and operate TT.

In between I was challenged by someone on if I know TT business?

I have operated TT with very basic phono as on date. The thoughts now are to come out of digital ASAP and my collection of vinyl within span of one month went up to 70. I hope to finish my target collection before end of year.

Once I am into this race there are people to support.

In addition to Sonido drivers speakers Amp and TT pics can give fair idea.

This was my 3rd project with Viren Sir and sound which I experienced at his place 15 years back had been floating in my memories and is now live in my home in front of me to the level of optimization which I need and to a point where I enjoy music.

With Satyaki I have tried to explore simplicity in equipment/cables etc.

I cant forget Prem as he is also part of support with his own experience.

Thanks to everyone for their patience during this move. For those with whom I could not convert deal may be soon there will be another journey from here where there support will be needed.

Of course one deal with Vikram Bhat soon.

Long term Impressions of Custom Stereo Speakers Designed by Satyaki

Hello Everyone,

Couple of months ago, one of my passion projects of getting a Custom-built stereo speaker finally got completed and I want to share my experience with this remarkable system built with the contributions of truly talented individuals.

The pair of stereo speakers are designed by my friend Satyaki, and after spending some serious listening time with them, I have to say—I’m thoroughly impressed with both the engineering and the sound signature.

At the heart of the setup is a pair of 12-inch Alnico full range speaker drivers crafted by Mr. Istvan Varga of Sonido, Hungary. These drivers are legendary for a reason. The sensitivity, tonal purity, and effortless coherence they offer are in a different league altogether.

To bring out the best in these drivers, Satyaki designed a beautifully optimized cabinet—a design that balances internal volume, port tuning, and resonance control with meticulous attention. His approach to the enclosure wasn’t just theoretical; it was informed by listening, iteration, and deep understanding of wideband driver behavior.

And then FM Sadik brought this design to life with craftsmanship that deserves its own applause. The cabinet execution is rock-solid, clean, and precise—excellent joinery, proper bracing, and thoughtful damping. It’s one thing to design a cabinet; it’s another to build it with the level of accuracy required for high-efficiency wideband drivers to truly shine.

The entire system is powered by a Lyrita 2A3 single-ended tube amplifier built by Viren Bakshi, and the synergy is simply magical. The 2A3 is known for its natural, open midrange and holographic imaging, and with the Sonido Alnico drivers’ high sensitivity, the pairing becomes almost perfect. The amp’s purity and tonal richness come through effortlessly.

Listening Impressions

The first thing that struck me was the coherence. With a single full-range driver, there are no crossover artifacts—music flows with an organic unity that’s hard to achieve with multi-way designs.
  • Midrange: Intimate, textured, and absolutely lifelike. Vocals and acoustic instruments feel startlingly real.
  • Highs: Airy and extended without the slightest hint of sharpness. There’s a delicacy and natural shimmer to cymbals, strings, and ambience.
  • Bass: Surprisingly articulate, tight, and well-controlled for a wideband design. The carefully tuned cabinet plays a major role here—there’s depth without bloat, and excellent speed.
  • Imaging: With the 2A3 amp and high-efficiency Sonido driver combo, soundstage layering is exceptional. Instruments lock into place with clarity and stability.
  • Dynamics: Micro dynamics are extraordinary. Small changes in tone, breath, and texture are immediately apparent. The system breathes with the music.
What makes this setup even more meaningful is the human side of it.
From the very beginning, Satyaki has been incredibly kind and supportive. He patiently guided me through every step, answered all my questions, and put so much thought into making sure the final result matched exactly what I hoped for. His passion and patience added so much value.

FM Sadik’s craftsmanship turned that vision into reality with unwavering precision.

Viren Bakshi’s 2A3 Lyrita amplifier adds a soul to the system that transforms every listening session into something special.

A big thanks to FM @prem and @souravin for their constant guidance and inputs.

The speakers themselves are fantastic. The sound output is rich, detailed, and beautifully balanced across the spectrum. Whether it's warm vocals, crisp highs, or deep controlled bass, everything feels just right. I’ve spent countless hours listening to my favorite tracks in both vinyl and digital, and each time I’m amazed at how immersive and engaging the audio feels.

This entire project has been a wonderful journey, and the end result is a system that I’m genuinely proud of and deeply enjoying. I couldn’t be more grateful to everyone involved.

Wow..these look real nice and congrats!

The designer and the carpentry artist have worked wonders to bring this creation to life.

Are these speakers designed to work close to the wall ?

If the seating position is closer perhaps reflections from nearby surfaces can be mitigated

As you put in more hours on the rig do pen your thoughts on what can be improved further.

Every engineering is a compromise.

Best

I will try to reply here with some of my experience with these speakers.

These are most easy going speakers either with wall or away from wall.

Above this perhaps I am the only one who had experienced Lyrita AMP with 3 different tubes considered top most choices audio circles. 300b, 2a3 and 45. Between Satyaki and me, we had a date next year to listen together.
Viren ji created these amps at different times. I have used all with these speakers.

My impression is these are very comfortable speakers to drive with any of three options.

I got surprised when i hooked up 45 tubes in my current version of 2 stage amp. Played different genres Rock/Pop/Classical/Indian etc warmth of music was intact with a sweet punch of base.

I think everyone crave for sweetness in music even though there are different names like organic/neutral etc. Too me I am thoroughly enjoying these speakers. I give my my thanks 🙏 to Viren and Satyaki.

With Vinyls its altogether and extended pleasure listening hours and hours.

Coming back to tubes 300b is one where everyone feels something different. I do agree but if I have to rate then choice will be 45/2a3 and then 300b.

It’s good that we can use both 45 and 2a3 on the same amp.

Its well said that its first watt that matters and its proven right here.

As far as cost part is concerned these speakers along with SET is the best choice for many of Music lovers.

Enjoy your music journey.
