Hi Guys,

I was pretty new to this hi-fi music but after seeing all the threads available from the Music Gurus here I have pushed my choice for HTiB from Sony to Yamaha/Onkyo/Denon.

Now the worst part is after the thirst for music has increased i cannot quench my thirst in Pune

I wanted some demos for Onkyo and check the Yamaha AVRs 365/465. Checked with eZone at Ishanya, Chroma at Ishanya & Solapur Road, Hadapsar, these guys know nothing beyond Sony. Vijay Sales has the demos available only for Yamaha HTiB 392 with HTR6230 AVR.

As per Chroma records the Yamaha RX-V465 has been discontinued and they have only RX-V365 at Rs.29000/-

Worst part is the sales guy even dont have the knowledge on this front, surprisingly one of the guys in Vijay Sales said that Sony is better than Onkyo and Yamaha....:ohyeah::ohyeah::ohyeah:

Checked with "Sound Factor" for Harman Kardon and JBL Cinesystem, i liked it but then again the AVR does not have latest decoders (Dolby HD, etc advised to me on this forum). Also there was lot of thump and found those speakers right for Hard Rock. Probably the settings were that way.

So can anyone advise on this forum, which is the best place where i can get the demos for Onkyo/Denon/Yamaha at one place. Also choice on different speakers.

Or do we conclude Pune is still to mature on this front and i need to extend my search to Mumbai..............

Regards,
Girish

Hi Hemant,

Thanks for sharing the info, you have been an angel truly.

Had visited AVXellence here in Pune today at Dhole Patil Road, Authorised Dealers as per ProFX website. When you visit the shop, first question is what is your budget??? (Now i feel this is very rude....) They keep products only above Rs.50000/- as per the sales guys over there.

Suggestion for them, they should put a display outside the shop "WALK-IN, IF YOUR BUDGET IS ONLY ABOVE 50000/-" :-)

Regards,
Girish

Hi Guys,

Can anyone from Pune suggest me better options?

Hemant,
With all these experiences i need to definitely plan a trip to Mumbai. Will need your help then.... where i can witness the SOUND :-)

Girish

BTW i had bad sales expereinces in unetoo.
Chitle is i think good xample.
In one famous marathi bookshop near dagduseth ganapati, once my bill was above 2500 Rs.( For me and my friends) I was told twice while paying the amount which I was paying :). Meanwhile the staff seemed least interested in sales and appeared lacking in knowledge.

Ideal dadar is cramped bookstore ,but once I was asked to take a walk inside and select whatever I wish.

Same happened with me today , I told them my budget is 25k and they were like you cannot get anything for 25k , atleast your budget should be 50k . I asked them can I get DEMO of the Onkyo 3300 atleast as it falls under my budget? and voila ! they dont keep it for demo !! Then I said ok , atleast tell me receivers that are available in my budget ? there was only one Denon 1311 . Didn't ask exact price though , as their behavior was not customer friendly.

Best to boycott such shops.
Guys even I am in same boat - looking for HTiB for around 25k. Based on various posts Onkyo 3300 seems to be a good bet but I need to audition it first.

Any idea where I can do so in Pune?

Guys, I really feel sorry for Pune people ( I am one of them).
The availability of audio equipment is sparse and behavior rude.

Okay, hit this store to check some equipment :

the Jamo shop :
Koregaon Park , North main road, near Pizza hut
brands : Mordunt short, Jamo, Denon, Cambridge Audio etc
Prop : Ms Bhatia

Oceanic sound /vision :
MG road, near Shamum's flowers
brands : Jolida, Cadence, some indian also
(beware these also favor high budgets; go there to browse CDs and then ask)
Prop: Mr Dave

thanks

All frustrated Pune members, please come down to Mumbai - take an early morning Volvo, train or share-a-cab. Spend a day in Mumbai. Places you can check out are given here in another thread: http://www.hifivision.com/introductions/12372-introduction-2.html

I had walked into Oceanic Sound (in late 1994) to check cassettes and saw a demo Cadence, which I had read about in the Times Of India Sunday supplementary just a few days back. I think it was their first speaker the Arca. Of course the only thing I could remember was the shocking pricing mentioned by ToI (around 4.5L for a pair). Nice to know that they still stock Cadences. I still hope to own a pair someday.

I usually quote my budget less than what I have in mind else the sales people usually stretch that. I will not take names here, but one well known person quoted me good 10k above the MRP for a pair of bookshelves, I have checked with the distributor also, and he said to check out the shop and I shall get discounts on that price!!

There are good people, but you have to search and talk a lot to find out who is being honest, and who is trying to hard selling using your possible lack of knowledge.

Are you looking for AV or Stereo?

Hey Guys,

Try Pankaj Electronics, Laxmi road. They had some stuff there. Mostly Yamaha but you could try for onkyo also.

Hi,
Please try your luck at Sound & Vision [9822088022, 26357647]. Got the details from somewhere (?) but I haven't been there personally.

Since few of us wants to audition Onkyo 3300 , can we go for it in a group ? Also we might get good discount too !
Only problem is , where to go ? :P

Hi Guys,

Had been to Pankaj Tele-Audio yesterday.
Good to find a place where you can listen to products you wish to purchase.

Got to hear Yamaha 465 with NSP 110. Nice surround however the sub lacks the punch. The sales guy quoted Rs.31000/- for this combo. only avr at Rs.25500/-
They had Denon 390 HTiB at 29000/-. however the avr does not have the latest decoders DTS HD etc.

They dont have Onkyo, also do not deal in JBL speakers.

Girish

Girish 465 is phased out . and replacement isexpensive. it is a capable avr. so grab the last piece at 18 K ...BTW in Alfa Mumbai it is not possible to audition..so tak audition somewhere and buy...also I fel Yamha Mission package will be really good!

Hi Hemant,

Yes i have also finalised on the RX-V465, however i am not able to audition the Mission speakers.

Can anyone one please guide me with the 5.1 speakers package (Model nos.)in a range of 15-18K probably Mission/JBL /Energy?

Regards,
Girish

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
