Recently while scouring the net for BA XS 5.1 in Bangalore, I came across someone selling it through one of the classified ads websites. I texted the person inquiring the availability but got no response. A couple of days later, I saw the same ad now posted in hifiads. I responded to the ad and also mentioned that I'm the same person who had texted you earlier...no response this time either!!!

Makes me wonder...someone wants to sell the equipment but does not respond to inquiries...what could be the reason?

The only plausible explanation I could think of was that the ads probably took a couple of days to go through the approval process to appear on the websites and the person found a buyer in the meantime. Since the stuff in question is no longer available, he does not see the need to respond...

hmmm...

Not that... He want to sell to an fresh buyer who could not find fault or technically question the credibility with those...

Why not call him and talk directly? Many times buyers only message with no intention of buying. So messages can be ignored.

Geroge,

I'm afraid the system you mentioned above is a huge compromise.

Ideally, if budget is the constrain, you can always build a system step by step. Get an AVR + a pair of floorstanders to start with. You can definetly add the rest as and when you can spare some cash on them.

All the best.

Frankly if he is not responding then you should not pursue it further as you would not be in good bargaining position by being desperate about it. Better to look elsewhere than to pursue him relentlessly.

My thoughts exactly...

Texting, not calling is purely out of courtesy to the other person...the point of posting here was to think aloud on what would be the circumstances when one puts a for sale ad and does not reply to those interested? Can there be a motive behind it or just plain lack of basic etiquettes...

To be fair to the other party...if he has found a buyer he may choose to ignore the other callers (or in my case 'texters') as their numbers could be prohibitive...

@ soulforged - In this forum itself, I have found many sellers just trying to keep things in between themselves... I will give you an instance below.

Sometime back, I was browsing the For Sale Section and found a good lot of LPs that I had been searching for since quite some time. The post was very new since it was posted at 11:05AM that very day and the seller was online as well. I promptly send in my interest quoting the same price and requesting him to provide his bank details to effect the transfer. My PM went across to him almost instantly the moment his sale post came online... Surprisingly, I was not offered that lot instead, it was offered to another buyer.. I was very surprised at it but cannot comment as to why the seller preferred the other buyer instead of me.. :D

However, I realised that any sale is always at the discretion of the seller rather than the response of the buyer. :)

I think it is lack of etiquette. If something is already sold then ad should be removed or atleast have basic courtesy of responding even if it is a no.

To a certain extent that is understandable and acceptable...but the seller should be curteous enough to let the buyer know of the reason...it's his stuff and he does reserve the rights to choose the buyer but there should be some transparency...

I recently put some of my stuff on sale. I am getting lots of responses and it is becoming hard to keep track of my responses...but I am trying...at least the effort should be there

Dear tintin2k2,
if you are refering to my sale I have clearly stated that
Also if there are multiple buyers kindly allow me to decide whome to sale as convenient to me. Hope you understand. Remember this will be for some good cause
I would like and prefer the buyer to come and see all the stuff personally. As I would like him to be happy and satisfied with the purchase. There is one member who will be visiting me. Lets see how it goes.
If you are not referring to me its ok. :)
Regards

...also I had posted this in my sale thread as early as 9.55
Gentlemen,
Sincere thanks for your response. Please allow me some time to respond before confirming."
regards.
Don't know how much more courteous I can be. As for replying immediately when I get a message, remember I had posted it on hifimart and quikr too. Got number of queries. As a graphic designer I work online continuously, so I have to handle my clients too. Don't know why am I dragged in to this unnecessarily. That too when I am not earning a single rupee.

Yes there are a few members who lack basic etiquette in (cor)responding to fellow forum members, be it on 'for sale' thread or any other thread.

It could be the upbringing or the environment that they grew in.

Ohhh !!!! No No No.. This does not refer to you at all... I am referring to an incident which happened quite some time back..... maybe around 4-5 months back....

Apologies if I was misunderstood...

Dear Hiten,

I have the highest regard for you wrt to your sale the proceeds of which will go for a noble cause... I am pretty sure, I myself would not have parted with such items even when its collecting dust at my place. Your intention is very noble and I am really proud to have connected with you earlier in the day.

Keep smiling n All the very best !!

I am glad that cleared the air up a bit...I am still wondering why would anybody post on multiple platforms but not respond to someone who is obviously interested...

Another reason that comes to mind is "he does not want to sell at all!"

Wife: I told you to take that monstrous speaker box off our home
Hubby: But darling, I've posted it on 3 sites and noones interested! guess we're stuck with it so might as well listen to some music...

No need to apologize. And absolutely no problem from my side. Such things happen. :)

That's actually a very good strategy to follow, until wife decides to talk to buyers and handle the sale process herself! ;)

Re: Lack of etiquette

Why Keith! Don't you agree? Didn't we all get trained (conditioned) on how to behave?
Speaking for myself, not really. Well actually yes, but what I was taught was irrelevant stuff like blanket behaviour - always respect your elders, speak politely to them etc. Beyond that: No comment. Because I know that what I say will just open a can of worms and elicit strong reactions. Stinky worms!
