I am posting some of the pictures of my 3KVa VERTEX Servo stabilizer with EMI/RF filters and Surge suppressor. Cost : 12K (I believe now it is increased). Size is similar (or slightly bigger) to my Onkyo subwoofer and weighs around 35-40kg (very difficult to lift it alone). All the inner connecting wires are very thick using single core wires (thats why the wires are in some pattern)

Note :
Picture clarity is less since i have edited to add text and because of the phone camera.
Zoom the pictures to 100% to view the text clearly.

thanks Sajith, You seems to be on possitve side and have guts to open and do R&D.. Are u an electrical engineer?

Thanks Sajith. Even I am going for a 3 KVa. Alpha has come back with a special cost of 6k+ tax and installation for HFV members. Let see how it goes, more than price I want to ensure the quality is top notch.

Can you post some feedback if the system performance has improved?

Also, what was the cost for installation?

Any idea if they have Roller Type Servo which is maintenance free?

I am trying to get some good deals for HFV guys so trying to understand details.

Bought in 1987 and using since then without a single service till to-date and a single day shut-down or problem !! Absolutely Remarkable..........

Options available incl add-on RF/EMI, isolation transformer etc.
Some wonderful looking stuff on that site. I've just. in a moment of mad, expensive fantasy, installed a 3-phase servo for the whole house, a cvt for the hifi and a big UPS for the PC! The fantasy, I can afford.

Unfortunately, the difference between fantasy and reality is a full purse...

Thad: Why CVT for music, its not recommended for audio system, servo is the best option.

Can you let us know the price and details pls? I am working at getting a discount for HFV so it will help.

I am in the process of purchasing a 3 kVA servo stab with inbuilt RF/EMI at Rs. 13.8k (including excise-duty + VAT + transport charge for delivery to Noida). If you can get discount for HFV members, it would be great.

I'm still very much a learner at this stuff, and what is appropriate for what!

Where I come from, 240 volts comes out the wall 24 hours a day, 364 days a year. Only the real (and often big-spending) purists put anything at all between a wall socket and their equipment, and even UPSs are seldom-invoked insurance policies seldom seen outside the work computer room.

I gather the improvement in SQ in reality does not meet your fantasy?
Can you try swapping the CVT for a Servo in the hifi and let us know your feedback about SQ please?

Regards

Sajith

What was that noise making label you put in the pic? Does it emit any sound that kills the silence? How is the SQ with and without the Stab?

Our voltage here has been so wildly variable I have long had thoughts about a servo stabiliser for the whole house. Recently, EB laid a new cable and the engineer told us that we now shared our supply with the VIPs on the posh side of the [Chennai] East Coast Road and, as a result, the voltage would be much more reliable and the cuts very few. It has improved, but I think there is still room for the servo. But a 3-phase for a whole house? Too much money, I think.

what two reliable people have told me is that isolation transformers are much better than servo stabilizers. murthy in bangalore makes both and he said the servo will sound worse. he recommended the isolation transformer. of course if you have wild voltage swings you need a servo but if you have the money do add an 1:1 isolation transformer after that and then plug equipment into it. food for thought and exploration.

No I am not, I am an IT Professional. But my dad is a retd. Chief from KSEB and so I am having exposure to electrical side because of that. From my childhood days I am seeing that the first thing he used to do once he purchase something (either a brand new one or an old one) was to open it and see whats inside and try to understand the parts used and find out how it works. Only thing to take care was not to make any marks on the screw heads because of the warranty issue. (A small piece of cloth b/n screw driver and the screw head will do the trick). But till now I havent tried to open my LCD TV, since i had stripped smaller LCDs for DIY projectors before.:)

I dont think there will be a performance improvement just because of a stabilizer unless there is some huge fluctuations or any RF/EMI interference in your line. A servo stabilizer \ a normal one will be to protect the power supply unit of the equipments connected to it in case of any fluctuations or a high current. Its like an extra protection for them so that we dont have to spend much by giving the expensive equipments for repair. It will also prevent the early death of the power supply parts which are caused by fluctuation.

It was delivered to my doorstep and there is nothing which needs an installation, plug it and use it. Also it comes w/ 2year ONSITE warranty. Manjunath himself came to my house and he is such a nice person and he came to my house 3 or 4 times (not for any repair) for changing some of the parts as per my requirement (he also changed the control board to a better one free of cost) and helped in calibrating the reference current as 225-226v. Also explained me what all customisation was done and the effort to bring down the sound (using teflon wheels for the arms connected to the motor) etc. Further we can improve (if reqd) by adding some rubber bushes for fixing the moving parts to the frame.
I got it for 11.5K (negotiated price) while the actual quote was 12.5K.

I dont know whether there is any roller type servo stabilizers for household purposes because of the huge size.

Stevie, AFIK isolation transformer performs better with a dedicated earthing. In a multistoried apartment, dedicated earthing is not possible. Shall an isolation transformer be of any use with common earthing of the building?
