I have recently purchased a house which has a room which I want to develop as a home theater room. Dimension of the room is 15x13 feet. Wanted to setup a home theater but want to keep the cost below 1 lakh. The items which I want o purchase in the cost are as below:

1) Projector
2) Speakers / Amp
3) Screen

I giver higher priority for good picture. I can compromise bit on sound as I am on tight budget. I have another 40" TV in living room which is used for day-to-day viewing. This setup would be primarily used for movies.

Approx budget which I think for projector is around 60k, and for speakers around 30k and 10k for the screen. I checked the forum for the projector but cannot find suitable information on projector. The room can be made dark and hence I don't need to worry on ambient lighting. Dont have much experience with home theater setup and any kind of help would be welcome.

You can order Optoma HD20 from amazon.com & it's final price delivered would be less than 55k... For screen u would have
To inquire with ur local dealer but if I were in ur place I would by a 100 inch screen from pioneer screens in mumbai for 14k which they would be able to ship to hyd for an additional 1.5k approx... For sound u can buy a HTIB such as the onkyo 3500 or the denon 1312xp or the Yamaha 196 for under 30k... Although I would personally try to extent the budget to 35k & go for the onkyo 4500... Total cost would be less than 1.1 lacs...

I checked on the Optoma HD20 on Amazon.com, Is there any issues with buying projector from amazon.com from india? Will there be any custom duties over and above the cost initially charged.

I saw the Onkyo 3500 at Reliance digital but there is no demo room there also he was demoing by playing an mp3 from his mobile.

Need to see Denon yet. I do see offer on Yamaha 298 at 30k from pepperfry.com Is that better than Onkyo 3500?

I have been using Denon 1312 Xp from one month and I must say that it's been great for movies in that price range.I got it for 32k with Lg blu ray 3d player free with that in reliance digital as part of some offer.

Optoma HD20 is an excellent projector-- but it has---

Very limited placement flexibility, limited zoom range and no lens shift

So you should analyze how you plan on placing the projector into the room -- before buying it

I am still setting up the theater, hence lens shift should not be a big hurdle as I have flexibility to place the projector.

I visited on store here, he was suggesting that the Denon 1312xp might not provide sound enough for 13x15 room. Is that true? I am not a big audiophile but do not want to be disappointed with the setup.

Did check with pioneer screens from, he said he can ship screen for 750 rs extra.

Small problem with the room setup, the SL and SR speakers are coming behind user towards the corner. Is that big issue?

Is it worth extending budget for 3d project like Optoma DW312, WXGA, 3200 ANSI Lumens, 3D-Multimedia Projector
Amazon.com: Optoma DW312, WXGA, 3200 ANSI Lumens, 3D-Multimedia Projector: Electronics

Does low end 3d really add value?

Err u wont be extending the budget for a DW312 but rather decreasing it... Anyway I would not recommend it as it is a 720p business projector... What I have suggested is a 1080p home theatre projector... The diff in image quality is night & day...According to me, in a home theatre exp the image makes up for like 70-80% of the exp while the rest is made up by the sound quality... So if u want better SQ then extend ur budget a bit & get AVR + speakers but dont compromise on ur projector... Another good news for u is Acer is launching its latest Budget 3D projector @ a killer price in the US... Best of all Amazon is ready to ship it to India with a final price of less than 60k... I think this fits right into ur budget... Chk out the Thread I just posted about this deal http://www.hifivision.com/home-thea...d-1080p-projector-under-800-a.html#post478848

BTW if u want better sound than the HTIBs I have mentioned then u have to extend ur audio budget a bit... One option is to get a lower end AVR + just 2 front bookshelves for now & upgrade later when u can afford to starting with centre then sub & then last satellites... This will cost u a little more in the long run but I can guarantee u will be extremely happy with the SQ at the end of the day... If u must have a 5.1 setup right now itself then extent ur budget to 50k odd & buy the Polk 6750 5.1 from avenue sound Mumbai for about 28-30k & add a entry lvl receiver for about 20k-22k like the Onkyo 313/414/yamaha 373/pioneer 522 etc... I have auditioned the polk 6750 5.1 set in Mumbai with the pioneer 522 & it can beat the socks off any setup u pit against it in the under 60k range...

Thanks for the post. The projector Acer H6510BD looks interesting and I might go for it. As for separates, I am pretty new to the HT setup and have used only sony/phillips kind of systems till now. Would like to start with HTiB. Since there is some time till the house is ready I might change my mind.

Is it advisable to use ishopinternational to purchase? Amazon shows it for around 1082USD, i.e. around Rs 60k but the ishopinternational quotes around Rs 54k.
