Please let me know the status of Sony SSF 6000 floorstanders. These are four way alongwith a super tweeter. These would be connected to a 80WPC stereo amp. Please also let me know with what league of speakers would you put them up with.
Thanks.

Hi Buddy, This forum does not consider brands like LG, Sony, Phillips in any league :-)
What would you do with a super tweeter unless all the listeners in your house have 'Supra sensitive' eardrums?

Feeling sorry to read the above comment. I think, the basic idea behind the forum is to discuss and help others with the knowledge about the fascinating world of HiFi entertainment. Where is the taboo to ask about a Sony, LG or Phillips? After-all, the SQ etc. etc... are purely subjective concepts, opinions about those invariably vary from person to person. Those brands supply the objects of desire to many.

Please don't take otherwise.

that is a pretty ill-formed opinion to put forth on behalf of the entire forum. if you feel that way, i guess all of us are to blame for it...

However, to answer the op's question, I'd say "i don't know... yet!"

Some of the older Sony, Onkyo, JVC & Technics stuff was pretty good. Not very well known outside of Japan...

One would have to research a bit to figure out where these speakers stand... will try and dig out the info!

Be it sony or any brand, no need to worry about the league to which it belongs. Even if someone puts it into some league or certify or trash it, you need to decide it yourself. It has been repeatedly told by many many in this forum "trust your ears". If you want to buy any speaker, you need to do audition with your favourite CDs. If you already have amplifier, take some effort to carry the same for the audition. Audition is going to give you whole lot of different experience and may surprise you also.

I will quote my personal experience. Last time when I decided to buy an amp (to get better sound quality), I carried my bookshelf speakers for audition to 3 different shops and auditioned 5 different amps. After audition I came to know the reason for poor sound quality of setup is my speakers rather than amplifier. So I dropped the amplifier purchase idea.

Take your amp to audition your would be speakers. Then take the final call.

I think its just you and not the forum. So, there is no need for the attitude, just as there is no need to diss people down for asking questions.

If you can not help, it might be better not to reply at all.

Now, have a nice day, sir,

I was expecting few comments in exchange of my 'ill-formed opinion'. However opinions are based on 'consecutive instances' > trend > opinions.
OP dont take my words, check the forum in detail and then come to a conclusion.
I've not attached myself to the forum, emotionally, but I do consider suggestions from this forum, critically.
OP sorry to deviate from your question.

"Even if someone puts it into some league or certify or trash it, you need to decide it yourself." Loved it.

I've heard them, they'r very boomy. By boom, it means theres a humming sound, however beginners might not notice it. Regardless youre better off with mission m33i

Hi guys,
2 days ago, I found a pair of tower speakers from Sony that were reviewed by people as really worth it (despite being from SONY!).

since I needed to replace my tannoy BS speakers in the living room owing to my little toddler being naughty, and hence the BS on stands being dangerous, I just went ahead and bought the towers - SONY SS K-90 ED. and believe me, they rock... for just 15k i bought meself speakers that are as good as any Monitor Audio tower!

Here are some discussions that you guys can go thru:

Flyin' Under the Radar - Sony SS-K90ED - AudioKarma.org Home Audio Stereo Discussion Forums
Sony SS-K70ED speakers: any owners?* [Archive] - SH Forums

and a review (from a publication I trust... even more so now!):

sonyssk70ed

Moral of the story: Don't diss a product unless you hear it yourself!

Dear Corelement,
Floor standers sound fuller than bookshelves. They also have better bass. The sony's I have mentioned(SSF-6000)are not bad at all. Please check out the reviews on e-bay.Moreover ,for the price you will not even get good bookshelves.I am using these presently just as an experiment. They sound better than my Bose AM-5.

I own Sony ss-fs0000 (shipped from E-bay at less than 9 K) and they seem to be doing a good job with movies if not stereo music listening.

Cheers!

A pair of good bookshelves on stands > low end floor standers.

I dont want to get into an argument but does it really hold good. Lets see

Yamaha NS 8390 (13K) = BS stands (7K, basic models) + Bookshelves (6K). I dont know if we get any bookshelves for 6k.

Wharfedale Vardus 300 (17K) = BS stands (7K) + BS (10K). Again only Cambridge Audio S30 is available at 10K. But I certainly dont consider it comparing better to Vardus, given the range Vardus delivers it has. May be overall quality is not that impressive, but neither is CA S30.

Polk TSI 300 (23K) = BS Stands (10K, increased as better BS would presumably need better stands) + BS (13k). Only entry level BS from Mercury VR, Wharfedale 9.1, May be 10.1. KEF C1 (12k), Pol TSI 100 (12k), KEF c3 (15k), MS Alumni 2 (13k), Q accoustics 2010 (13K). Do we really consider these bookshelves better than TSI 300? I don't.

Above this, its no more a entry level floorstand..is it? BS works only when you dont need a BS stand to place them. May be you have spacious 'bookshelves' (read showcase)to place the speakers or you can wall mount them. Certainly not possible in a rented place. But otherwise I would go for a entry level FS.

No offense on views expressed by other FMs.

Hi Deepchand, 9k is including shipment charge ? I am planning to buy ss-f7000 from ebay.It looks like they dont have stock now and Amazon is not shipping the speakers to Bnaglaore location.

.
That is odd comment. Good bookshelves+ speaker stands will always be above low end floor standers: pricewise as well as sound qualitywise. The book shelves that I really loved was Paradigm studio20. Cost rs 40k + stands for about 8k. They will blow away any entry level floor stander and may be some midlevel ones as well with the overall superb perfrmance. A floor stander 'may be' better in bass but when we listen to music, we listen to music as whole and not just bass notes.
