Sony KDL-42W900B

I didnot knew there is a new kid on the block
It has passive 3d and motion flow 400 hz
Probably ips panel lets see how the reviews come out

I saw this today at Sony Centre. It is also coming in 50 so like 50W900B.
It has passive 3D, comes with 1 flick remote. However looking at PQ, it was good however not as sharp as in 46W950A. Panel is like IPS, however borderless kind... both are trilluminous display...950 is 800 hz motion vs 400 hz on 900

I'm confused over 46W950A or 50W950B - which one to opt for? Sony person tells m Active is better than Passive. W950 has monolithic design so I could see some marks on front glass when there is no picture...may be it comes in IPS as well.

if anyone has any thoughts, pls do share...

46w950a/900a(va panels) is a better option than 50w950b/900b(ips panels) as it has deeper blacks...950b has got very poor reviews in all the sites because of its greyish blacks...but ips has its advantages too....like viewing angle, colours and motion reproduction...but if you want to buy a tv based on the best picture quality..then go for the 46w950a

Well.. now am very much confused..... Should I opt for 40W900A or 42W900B !!!!!! For both am getting the same price tag:( please help friends..

@anshuvishal, active 3d though better requires heavy glasses that operate on battery which needs constant replacement, moreover the glasses themselves cost a whole lot more than their passive counterparts in case you need a replacement, besides 3d viewing experience gets better with increasing screen size,so bada hai to behtar hai IMO.hope this helps

@sudipta, i would suggest you compaere their PQ side by side and then decide,IMO opinion one should prefer buying the most recent model, but thats just me.

I actually made side by side comparison between 40W900A and 42W900B and found the 900A to have an edge.

What is the price you are getting for both models ? 900A should be lower. Either the price offered to you for 900A is high or the price of 900B offered to you is very very low.

I did not have a chance to look over both the models but the viewing angle for 900B is arnd 82' and for 900A it is around 172' . I am not sure why sony has kept so huge difference and how much it will affect the PQ.

I am also looking forward to buy a Sony TV this Diwali season, please suggest me one of those as price difference is negligible. As of now 900A seems to be a logical choice but that 2" extra screen and Passive 3D is luring but nothing is over PQ.

So please if anyone can give more insight, as 900B is not available for Demo.

900 B is passive 3d because it cannot do active 3d effectively with just 100 Hz refresh rate when compared to 900a which is 200. In active 3D, the refresh rate is halved for each eye and that is why low refresh rate models prefer passive 3d.

Other than inferior refresh rate, 900b has Built-in camera, one-flick remote, local dimming, 2" extra, etc (i didnt see it personally, saw in their spec), which 900a doesnt (correct me if i'm wrong).

However one needs to demo side by side before his final take on...

Today, I checked both the models (900 A and 900B) in 40/42 inches along with Panasonic 670, Samsung 6400 and one Samsung UHD TV in 40 inches. I could not check the black level completely, but overall I preferred 900B.

Pros:
1) Extra very useful remote.
2) 2 extra inches
3) Skype cam
4) Very good viewing angle as compared to both Samsung models. Samsung picture was getting washed out. Panasonic was somewhat OK, but black level not in the same league as of Sony.

I believe Sony 900A had slightly better black level, but just slightly. But 900B was evidently brighter. 900A in the default setting looked like it needs more brightness, so I increased it and then the black was not that black. Besides in bright light 900A's picture did not feel as satisfying as Panasonic's also. But 900B was clearly the winner.

All these points are very subjective, but my vote goes to Sony 900B, which in 5 K extra provides more usability than 900A.

And, did I forget to mention, Sony is providing one Blu-ray player free with 900B, but not with 900A..

You will not need that brightness in home. My back light are at 4 and brightness is at 50 and this is sufficient even for day time viewing.

U R ryt, go. I wish I could get my hands on Panasonic plasma gt60 or st60. Bt I guess it too late. Never seen any HD tv playing better Dan dez.

I had a good read today between the comparison between these 2 devices and here are my views : (Not seen in person, will do it today and update.)

1) Most Important part KDL-40W900A is discontinued. But yes you can still get it.
2) The design is almost similar, except the huge sony bump on 40" at the bottom which in my terms is a good thing for 42", it kind of distracted the view.
3) I read somewhere the blacks looks better on 40" model than 42" . There can be several reasons to it. But the advantage of 42" model here is "X-Tended Dynamic Range". What basically it does is what 40" model lacked. So let's discuss first what it lacked. Yes the colors were punchy and I loved those punchy colors but then for 40" it was difficult to distinguish between the darker and the lighter shades. It had very prominent Darker shades but when it came to lighter once it made them dark too. So maybe this was the reason the blacks were that black in 40" even if it was not supposed to be there. X-tended Dynamic range helps 42" to distinguish between lighter and darker shades.
3) Size : Yes 2" extra adds more value period.
4) Audio : I am an audiophile and never gave more weight to audio in LCD/LED panels. Where is the space dude for a good driver? You need a thinnest LED then a good Audio, ain't gonna happen, but both will give decent Audio o/p.
5) Miscellaneous: As 42" is the new model it gives a camera inbuilt, a cool new flick remote.
6) Price : So here there might be a fight over value and money. As 40" is a outgoing model of 2013, we can get it at a good bargain. In India without bargain I can get 40" @65k and 42" @ 70K. And I am sure I can get more discount on 40" one below 60 easily. The price difference is not huge so I would recommend 42" model.

I would like to hear views as I myself is planning to buy one.

I spent some good couple of hours testing 900A and 900B in a partially controlled environment and 900A was trouncing over 900B except for viewing angles.

When lights were upped, the huge difference I found got narrowed. For people who are not able to find difference,900B is better because it has camera and one flick remote and passive 3d

So if you like 900b, buy it.

i just got confused on 42w700b vs 42w900b , i compared both models in nearly 12 showrooms but the sharpness in 700b cant realize in 900b whats your opinion
