Sony KDL-42W900B

Hello guys
I am planning to buy the 900b in pune.
They are asking 79,900. What do you think is the best price for the 900b?

They are asking for too much ... I am sure you can save easily 9000 in that deal ... remember this is a festive season. In Delhi Vijay Sales is giving it arnd 72-73 without bargain.

I spent some good couple of hours testing 900A and 900B in a partially controlled environment and 900A was trouncing over 900B except for viewing angles.

When lights were upped, the huge difference I found got narrowed. For people who are not able to find difference,900B is better because it has camera and one flick remote and passive 3d

So if you like 900b, buy it.

.... I am little curious, If I play on PS4 in a dark room, it would be difficult to watch at certain angels unlike other LED's ??

And yes besides viewing angels there is no particular reason to go for 900A, but please let me know that is the Viewing Angels issue a deal breaker, take all light conditions into consideration.

I had a good read today between the comparison between these 2 devices and here are my views : (Not seen in person, will do it today and update.)

1) Most Important part KDL-40W900A is discontinued. But yes you can still get it.
2) The design is almost similar, except the huge sony bump on 40" at the bottom which in my terms is a good thing for 42", it kind of distracted the view.
3) I read somewhere the blacks looks better on 40" model than 42" . There can be several reasons to it. But the advantage of 42" model here is "X-Tended Dynamic Range". What basically it does is what 40" model lacked. So let's discuss first what it lacked. Yes the colors were punchy and I loved those punchy colors but then for 40" it was difficult to distinguish between the darker and the lighter shades. It had very prominent Darker shades but when it came to lighter once it made them dark too. So maybe this was the reason the blacks were that black in 40" even if it was not supposed to be there. X-tended Dynamic range helps 42" to distinguish between lighter and darker shades.
3) Size : Yes 2" extra adds more value period.
4) Audio : I am an audiophile and never gave more weight to audio in LCD/LED panels. Where is the space dude for a good driver? You need a thinnest LED then a good Audio, ain't gonna happen, but both will give decent Audio o/p.
5) Miscellaneous: As 42" is the new model it gives a camera inbuilt, a cool new flick remote.
6) Price : So here there might be a fight over value and money. As 40" is a outgoing model of 2013, we can get it at a good bargain. In India without bargain I can get 40" @65k and 42" @ 70K. And I am sure I can get more discount on 40" one below 60 easily. The price difference is not huge so I would recommend 42" model.

I would like to hear views as I myself is planning to buy one.

W900 at less than 60K is a wow deal. Where are you geeting this price

I did not have a chance to look over both the models but the viewing angle for 900B is arnd 82' and for 900A it is around 172' . I am not sure why sony has kept so huge difference and how much it will affect the PQ.

I am also looking forward to buy a Sony TV this Diwali season, please suggest me one of those as price difference is negligible. As of now 900A seems to be a logical choice but that 2" extra screen and Passive 3D is luring but nothing is over PQ.

So please if anyone can give more insight, as 900B is not available for Demo.

I was at Sony store to buy PS3 remote. Saw 900B.

Awesome and must say WIDE viewing angles for sure even alsmots at an angle of 80%. You got viewing angles wrong mate. 900B got IPS panel and has much wider angles than 900A, which I guess is SVPA panel.

Only issue was I could not do any paraller comparison as 900A wasnt displayed next to 900B.

There was W600b as well which was pale in front of 900B and loosing contrast even at a slight angle say 30% or more.

Not a fair comparison I am sure - 600 is a lower series.

PQ : One thing I noticed with Dark Knight clips & Other Songs, Sony 900A and Sony 900B were just 10% or say marginally better in PQ over LG Plasma which is work 30K. I would say in fact LG produced better depth in certain scenes in fact(Dnt kill me for this).

While Blu rays look stunning on W900 and W900B, HD channels and USB looked acceptabe on Plasma as well. May be because content was 720p. 900 series is WOW when blu rays are played.

People may kill me for this, fact is I have had used LCD like LD650/ET50 as well. So, I have fair idea of PQ I assume.

Also note, Sound of 900B was better than 900A for sure.

i am from Ahmadabad,i am confused between 42w900b and 46w950a.w950a is out of stock in Ahmadabad.where can i find it in stores or online?which one is better for pq as well as 3d?will active 3d give me more headache?

Friends,

I am planning to buy Sony KDL 42W900B, I also consider LG 42LB750T, both are passive 3D.

As usual Sony provide little bright picture quality and lg WEB OS and 3D are very attractive.

I confuse between this two model.

which is best ???

Thanks in advance for your valuable expert replays

Today I finally had a demo of KDL-42W900B, All the misconceptions were erased immediately. The PQ is amazing. I tried all the preset mode, vivid, normal, sports, eyc. Except vivid all almost looked the same. But vivid gived you the feel of AMOLED displays(punchy colors) to a extent it might hurt your eyes to watch such vivid colors :p, which was almost the same case with 900A.

Sony has definitely improved the PQ over last year. Some might argue, but yes this is the case, X-Tended Dynamic feature does helps for more brighter images and better grey.

All in all I am already sold. All +ve points stands true from my last post, plus the -vs is gone. The Camera may still be a gimmick in India as not most of the people will use it for video calling but it is a added bonus. Yes sound has more depth now then previous generations.

Sony Well Done:clapping:

Depends what activity will you do more :

1) Playing games :

LG: only because of its dual play mode.

Sony : Brighter image.

3) 3D :

LG: Always leader in 3d period.

Sony : Not very far behind.

4) Movie :

Full HD/ HD -> Sony over LG as it has more vivid colors in normal mode too coz of the larger color gamut, and sound is better.

Normal Viewing : Can choose either.

5) TV : Same points as movie.

There is not a huge difference, but in vs game there is always a fight for small details too.

After going through the forum even I am convinced to buy 42W900B. I went to a Sony Centre to demo the TV and it was impeccable!

However, the turn off was the price quoted by the Sony Centre Pune - 80k. The store also refused to sell the TV without Blu-Ray Player.

I'll be buying the TV in Mumbai. Can anyone let me know the best deal in MUMBAI. I'll be buying it on 17th of October.

Thank You.

After Searching And Enquiring about all the LED TV present in the Current Market i have finally Settled for Sony 42w900b and purchased it Today.

Only Two Brands out of all is saw was having Good PQ. 1 -Sony 2 -LG

Why Sony - PQ Better Than LG(Only Reason).
I Was Blown away by the Colors on Sony :yahoo: (900b) . It was looking really good even with SD content:clapping:.

In 3D - Lg was a Bit better Than Sony(Not Too Far Though)
Smart - Hear is Where LG is Comparably a bit better than Sony.

Brought This in Croma Retail for 75000 (With Bluray Player and 1 Year Extended warranty).

People In this Form Are really Looking for some Reviews on this TV as this model is only released in (Japan & India), as i was also the one.

Bravias very good for gaming due to very less lag ( Display Lag+Input Lag).
Considering all light conditions, I will prefer 900A because in low light condition, the blacks are better in it. During Gaming, you will be sitting in front of the TV and hence you don't need to worry about viewing angles. If 900a is not available, then 900B will also do.

May will not even know the difference in picture quality of 900A because they will be comparing the PQ in a shop where the lighting is bright.

Dim the lights and then you will see the blacks turn grey in 900B

Plasmas do fare better with low quality video input, where as the LED/LCDs are more of a direct reflection of the quality of the video input.

Sony KDL-42W900B : Price

Guys,

Latest price being offered to me for Sony 42W900B is around Rs 75000. I had bought my home theater Sony BDV7100 from the same authorized dealer in Jamshedpur (buying the set for parents), hence he has somewhat agreed to reduce the price for blu-ray, which can be further in the range of Rs 4000-5000. Effective price will be around Rs 70-71 K.

Freebies:
1. Wall mount
2. 1 year extended warranty (not sure of this). But, in Rs 5000, 2 years warranty is available. That seals the deal. LED Tv without extended warranty, no way.

One quick help i need from you all. My area in Jamshedpur has lots of voltage fluctuations and spikes. Please suggest the best voltage regulator, UPS, or any protective mechanism in/under Rs 5000. My current option is V-Guard Crystal Plus'.

I also purchased 42W900B. But I didn't get any extended warranty. I even didn't ask about that. As per sony website I can buy it for 5K for 2 years.

Some people here saying they got it free. But reliance digital guys saying its not free.

Is it advisable to buy it? Is it like smart LED TVs are more prone for the problems likes mother board not working or display not working?

Please advise.

If, god forbid, your panel goes dead after one year, the replacement charge will be around 50,000 for Sony 42W900. Are you ready to take such a big risk? That too when LED TVs are notorious for 'Blue/Red line of Death' and 'Blinking lights of Death'? The decision is yours.

Bought the tv for 73k with free blueray at baron electronics, electronic city. Blueray can be exchanged for 4.5k:licklips: .
