Sony KDL-42W900B

Hello Friends, Before purchasing I was looking for feedbacks which I couldn't get, so in order to help others, I would like to give my feedback.

Pros--This TV has nice screen capable of delivering excellant colors.( LG and Samsung are also not far behind and have comparably good screen)

Cons--Limited video formats played via USB. I tried same file on LG and it played easily. I was shocked and equally saddenned with this that a cheaper LG 6500 can play the same file.
No VGA port. I cannot connect my old laptop which doesn't have HDMI.

People buy Sony because of the Brand Name otherwise in terms of features LG & Samsung win the game.

Infact, except Sony, all other TV in the same price range are both smarter, cheaper and also plays more formats. But Picture Quality wise, Sony fares better. But definitely not the 2014 Sony range with IPS Panels. For 900B, I will prefer the 4k Budget editions from LG and Samsung.

I wanted to gift a good tv for my parents. After comparing the models on display at Girias, decided on 42w900b.

Placed order in Sony centre for 70500/- without blue ray player but with 2 additional 3d glasses as the kit had only 2 pieces. With credit card but without cash back or emi scheme.

Not sure if the deal was good.

The picture quality and features seemed good

Delivery and installation planned for Wednesday....thrilled to have it installed a day before Diwali...

planning to link up Bose 2.1 companion speakers and woofer (8 years old but brilliant one)...just that it has only Aux in...dont know how the sound output will be....

I am between this model and 42W700B. Which Sony center gave you the price? I couldn't get it less than 75k

hi, I got it from Sony Centre Yelahanka. The deal I got is as below

Sony 42W900B+ 2 additional 3D glasses = 70500/- used Credit card...but did not get 5% cash back and did not take blue ray disk player.

Girias is also offering around the same 74000/- with 5% cash back but he will not take back the blue ray disk and will not give additional 3D glasses.

Better to go to Sony centre in suburbs bargain hard for cash back and emi option and if you want to go for additional warranty, exchange the blue ray disk for the same(though u will have to pay around 1.5K for it).

Dont tell your address till he agrees on everything.....

But here in mumbai no electronic store or even sony centre is negotiating on price. They all are quoting 79k. Not a single penny less.

I hope somebody can help me out to get a good deal on it.

Hi,
Yesterday, I bought Sony KDL 50W900B and I am very happy with the product. I purchased it from sony center. If you go to sony center, then they will give you a good discount. You will get 5% cash back on standard chartered card as well.
I am sure other dealers won't give you the same kind of discount.

Also, if you don't want the dvd player, then they will further reduce the price.

The most important primary feature of a TV is PQ and Sound, so if you are looking for it then go for sony W900B. Rest all features are secondary. You will never be satisfied it. Smart TVs features shouldn't be the primary factor for the selection. If you really want smart tv, then get a cheaper LED tv with a chromecast dongle.

You can get 4k TV at same price of 50W900B but what is the point when there is no 4K/UHD channels. Why not wait for that change to happen. By the time UHD channels will come, you may see TVs with 5k, 6K, . etc... in the market.
Another factor is your budget, if your budget doesn't permits then go for other brands but don't compromise if you can manage another 10 - 15K. Just get a good product and enjoy watching TV.

Anyone is impressed by samsung curve 48h8000 , the pure hd led model? it is slightly costlier than sony 50w900b. But i found that picture quality on curve was splendid with better blacks and realistic colors.Motion hertz is also higher .Any comment?

My sister purchased the same TV today along with a Sony HT system.
The combo price was Rs. 135000 (they took back the BD player that comes free with the TV).

Hi All,

I am planning to buy a new LED tv for my living room and my budget is less than Rs:100,000/-. My requirements are
1. Good Sound output with Clarity
2. Best display for 2D & 3D viewing
3. Smart TV with easy usage, app downloads, updates etc..
4. Software & Hardware upgrade if possible in future
5. Durability

I have shortlisted few Tv's from my end mentioned below with the price and i would like to request experts here to take a look and suggest me with the best option. Please feel free to add if i missed any other better Tv in this segment .

SONY KDL-42W900B - 76k in snapdeal (Liked it)
SONY KDL-46W950A - 85k in snapdeal

SAMSUNG 40HU7000 - 79k (No 3D but UHD)
SAMSUNG 46H7000 - 99k in Reliance Digital (Liked it)
SAMSUNG 48H6400 - 86k in snapdeal

I saw SONY KDL-42W900B, SAMSUNG 40HU7000 and SAMSUNG 46H7000 in person in showroom and liked SAMSUNG 46H7000 a lot but wanted to compare it against SONY KDL-42W900B or SONY KDL-46W950A picture quality, is Triluminos display really better than SAMSUNG 46H7000 tv's display? SAMSUNG 46H7000 tv has 800 Motion rate and looks better display in showroom than sony.
Also wanted to check if SAMSUNG 40HU7000 UHD a better option than SAMSUNG 46H7000 at the cost of 3D?

Thanks,
Naveen.

Go for 46W950A if you are getting fresh piece. Be careful with the sellers. This is a old model and there is very less chance of getting fresh piece but you can try.

One more thing don't buy from snapdeal. go to stores and negotiate, they will lower the prices. 42W900B will cost around 67K or less if you exchange with old TV.

Go for Sony46W950A you won't regret it

Got one myself from cromaretail online it was brand new piece, enjoying the deep blacks and amazing pq

Beware of snapdeal

@binoymehra: 48H8000 is costly and way over my budget, thats the reason i have shortlisted 46H7000. 46H7000 is almost very similar to 48H8000 except for the curve screen.

HI, look out for F8000. It has the best PQ next to 950a and should be available for less than H8000 curved panel. You should also be able to strike a better deal because its a 2013 model. But both the Sony models mentioned below are far better in handling motion without judders even without the backlight scanning and motion interpolation.

950a and 900a(2013 model)>F8000(2013 model)>H7000>950b

The 950B take the last position only because of the contrast ration due to IPS panel. Else, it also has excellent colour adherence and colour reproduction with excellent motion handling.
