Hi All,

I have an Onkyo 606 AVR and now have a Optoma hd65 projector ..

Unable to get sound through my AVR ( speakers ) . I have connected it this way

1) DVD Component video out to Projector ( Video directly from DVD to projector)
2 ) DVD Digital out to AVR digital IN ( for sound through avr --> speakers)

I had earlier posted a question wherein the sound was not coming with the above connection. But later noticed accidentally that sound comes through when i remove the component cables from back of DVD . If i plug them in sound stops

Please note i am using the red connector of a long RCA cable ( Yellow , Red , white ) to connect to DVD digitial out to the the AVR digital In .

Is using a RCA cable instead of the coaxial cable the culprit ..But wonder why the sound comes clearly when i disconnect the component cables from DVD.
Could it be some interferance . Dont have a second DVD player to check if any issue with DVD player

There shldnt be issue ideally as you are not using HDMI connection.
You need to check AVR connection as selection of dig in on AVR may not be Fix.
If you have to digital connection, you need to select optical OR coax or any other.
If HDMI connection on AVR is on(other device)then AVR will select HDMI sound as priority.

Try the following:
1) connect the component out from DVD to AVR + coaxial under the same name (ie DVD for component and DVD for coaxial - labeled at IN1) then connect the HDMI out to the prj, else connect a component out from the AVR to Prj
2) Just try plain analogs i.e component + 2 RCA both input to AVR
3) Try a 5.1 movie initially then switch to 2 channel movie..

Are you able to listen to audio over digital conection between AVR and DVD. The other solutions are what Jayad08 proposed
