Sound Solution required for my Sony 47"W800a LED TV

Hey Guys,

Am a complete noob when it somes to speakers and sound solutions.
So need your guidance.

I am disappointed with the sound produced by my Sony W800a LED TV.
So was looking for a speaker solution for the same.

I'll post my requirements, you can guide me basis that.

1. Budget 10k-15k
2. No space in room for keeping big speakers.
3. Currently have a PS3, Tata Sky HD and Laptop hooked up to the 3 HDMI ports of the TV. So have only 1 HDMI port free. Is it better to use this HDMI port for the sound solution?
4. When the sound solution is connected to the tv, all the other devices connected to my tv should also make use of this sound solution device. (Is this possible?)

Pls share your recommendations.

Guys any idea when the "Sony Ht Ct260" sound bar will be launching in India?
Seems perfect for my requirement.

If it ain't coming anytime soon, could you suggest something similar that is available in India.

Cheapest solution would be an optical to RAC converter, a Topping T 20 and small bookshelves.
 
A soundbar is what you want to look at. Even though the budget is less, you should be able to find something.

If you space around your TV to hook up small book shelf speakers, then there are few options...

Leave the HDMI port.. That is input port & not output port...

1) You can buy an entry level AVR from Onkyo/Yamaha/Denon/Pionner/Marantz will cost u max 20K & then speakers an other 10K.. So you will overshoot your budget...

2) If you are open to used Proper hi-fi products then you can scout for used BS & stereo amp for 15 ~ 20K Max... You can make use of the Analogue audio outputs from your TV.. This way it will remain connected to you TV & you will get output from your TV to stereo amp all the time...

3) if you have any old Hi-fi speakers @ home (Sony, Philips, Panasonic, Videocon, Kenwood, Aiwa), then you can reuse them buy getting a new amplifier for approx 5K....

Let us know what works for you and we can suggest you based on that..
 
1) A good entry level AVR with a pair of good bookshelves can be had at the above budget.
2) A ready HTIB from Denon/Yamaha/Onkyo but budget would overshoot. My guess is about Rs 27,000-30,000.
3) A soundbar would generally not replace a basic HTIB or point 1, it is however a very aesthetic solution.
4) If you are open to pre owned, watching the for sale would yield surprisingly good results within your budget.

The thing is, Am not looking for a HT kind of experience.
Am just looking for a simple solution that replaces my TV's built in speakers.
My room is not sound proof, so with a HT system, i would be disturbing others in the house and not to mention the neighbours ;)

So keeping these things in mind, i thought a Sound bar would be the best solution.
1. It meets all my requirements
2. Takes up less space with literally no wires

Also, i was planning on fixing the sound bar above my TV. Good idea? I do not have room below the TV. (TV is wall mounted)

Would appreciate your responses for a good sound bar option :)

Having myself researched a bit on sound bar, the Sony sound bar mentioned in my second post, seems to be the best budget sound bar currently available. But it is not yet released in India.

Anything in similar lines would be appreciated :)
 
You can look at JBL200 as well. Another one is F&Ds (T780) soundbar (around 9-10K) with a sub-woofer. It has

Input ports: Aux x 1; HDMI x 2; RCA x 2

Output ports: HDMI x 1; Video out x 1

Look for review of them before deciding finally.

In fact I am also looking for an enhancement of the sound of my TV 51F5500 (which are real lousy). But not a full fledged HT. Same prob like yours. But I have a Sony (5 speaker) component system. Currently packed up because I can't use it as it's too loud for others. I may unpack it and use it. If fine, I will live with it. Otherwise may be one of these two I am planning to look at.

Well i had looked at the above 2 options shared by you and was interested in getting the JBL but as per most of the user reviews, the JBL seems to have some issues of going to sleep after 10 mins of use in bluetooth mode. So decided not to go for it.

Have not heard of F&D, plus could not find many reviews on it, so am skeptical.

Looking for other options.

Yes.... technically its for PC ..... but please dont misunderstand its power.... its way ahead than most of the hi end PC speaker including bose and I have seen people using this with a 55" Sammy LED with utmost satifaction..... if your budget permits then can go for A5 as well ..... let me confirm you .... these two are simply much better than any entry level sound bars on any kind of TV.. but offcourse... at the end of the day ... its your choice ..... this was just my one paise......

So are these speakers wired?
Also does it work like a sound bar? where i just connect the speakers to my TV and rest of the TV HDMI connections like PS3, Tata sky etc use the speakers for sound?
 
I checked out the JBL Sound Bar.
In the showroom, it sounded ok.
Was not very convinced as it does not have a seperate wireless sub-woofer.
So i guess i'll wait for the sony HTCT260 sound bar's launch in india.
Any info on the launch date for this beauty?
 
If you can stretch your budget to around 30k then take look at Onkyo LS3100. It's a 2.1 system with wireless sub. I am really happy with it as TV speaker.
